2 sentenced for sharing marijuana with toddler

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) -- A woman has been sentenced to three years of probation for smoking marijuana with her 2-year-old nephew.

Her friend was sentenced to four months in jail, three years of probation and 30 days in a work-release program. He is accused of rolling the pot and getting high with the toddler.

Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Mark Betleski said he gave Terrence Craig, 22, of Elyria, a harsher sentence than Danielle Wells, 22, because of previous run-ins with the law.

In September, Wells -- who now lives in Columbus -- was convicted of corrupting and assaulting the toddler, Khairee Davis. Craig was found guilty of the same offenses and additional count of corrupting another person -- a 14-year-old neighbor -- with drugs.

Police said that in August 1999, Wells and Craig were in Wells' apartment with the boy and his baby sitter, Steven Rand, now 17, and that all three took turns smoking a cigar filled with marijuana.

When Khairee's mother, Tanika Davis, returned to the apartment, she found him slumped on the floor and took him to the hospital. His urine tested positive for the drug.

Wells and Craig both maintain they are not guilty. Khairee now lives with his father.

Betleski said he considered testimony during the trial that the child was familiar with marijuana. The fact that Khairee "just took it and toked it'' showed he was familiar with the process, the judge said.

You sound like me. I first smoked at 14 in 1971 and a year later I was a daily smoker till 1983. All through high school and college and into the beginning of my professional life. I was traveling all over the world on business by then to places where pot was plentiful and cheap but I soon found that the whimsical nature of pot did not mix with my fairly risky life and I gave it up....never looked back. I just knew it was over for me. I have continued to always be around a lot of pot but I only smoked once on a dare from my ex-wife in 1991. She didn't believe I was once the big dope smoker I claimed so one night after a little tequilla, i indulged. It felt like I had never quit. She went to bed and I sat up outside and smoked up her whole stash of skunk....she never dared me again and that was the last time...lol


I rarely drink either and never ever to excess.....but I do smoke cigars daily . Big fat La Gloria Cubana Charlemagnes....there is no substitute in my book except maybe a Cuban Bolivar or Trinidad or Sancho Panza.....my only vice left...sigh.

I tried to take up cigars 5 years ago. I fell in love with the Macanudo Portofino and liked to have one after work. My wife would absolutely have none of it. She won that argument. I lived to fight another day!

Remember the Brother Love commune of pot worshippers cum Jamaican weed smugglers from the early 80s. 60 minutes did an expose on them at their Key Biscayne/Coconut Grove mansions back then showing them and their little kids running around with big spliffs fuming. Needless to say, they all did serious Fed time for pot smuggling from Ganja-land. They were in with the Coptics real big down in JA.

Your wife probably did you a favor. I don't inhale cigars of that magnitude but there are risks to be sure. I can go days without a cigar without much craving. Back when I smoked ciggies in my youth, it was quite a different story...ciggies are the most craven addiction this side of crack or gack...I'm glad I gave them up around age 28. I took up cigars on a lark at a poker game around 8 years ago. It was a Padron churchill as I recall.

We had a cat Lucifer ...black of course....who had the habit of finding dropped Stanley panes in the shag carpet.....that damned cat lived to be 20 or so.

I got a yellow tabby kitten in college, who had a black sibling named Lucifer who did the same thing. My tabby lived about 20 years also.

Not exactly what I call good manners. Very few libertarians on this forum admit to smoking pot. Most,like myself, flatly deny it. Most of those that oppose the WoD do so for political and economic reasons, not for personal use. Claiming otherwise is false.
