Lest we forget, these laws will survive Bush's term in office. Would you like a President Hillary Clinton (gasp) to have these powers?

You have such practical recommendations. Perhaps you should run for elected office.

Then destroy the data of all non-suspects. Only keep data of suspects that is deemed worth keeping by a warrant. And you really think the feds would do this?

Hear! Hear! We have over 10 million illegals in this country. Start with removing them before removing any citizens' rights.

AWM,
I agree 100%. The sheeple are drunk on the Bush koolaide. I'm generally a Bush supporter, but this bill is insane.

Take note: this announcement came
after the election.
Two years from now, people will be well conditioned and ignore the fact their every breath and keystroke is being monitored "for our own safety."

Re:
1. First seal the borders. Isolationism never works.
2. Mention a timeline for this lost privacy. Let's not bury our head in the sand and hope they don't hit us again just because we feel a little nervous/worried when downloading pron. This requires sacrifice from all. Compared to what Lisa Beemers husband sacrificed, I don't mind my packets being sniffed.
3. Non-citizens can be monitored. From terrorist nations? AGREED.

Oh yea . .and one more thing. George W. Bush just called and told me he had no idea how YOU felt about these pressing issues and assured me that he was going to impliment them by the end of the week. He also wanted me to ask you if there are any personal requests he can entertain for you? Perhaps dancing a jig? Bunny hop ? Macareena ? Chicken Dance ? < / sarcasm off >

I always thought America had strict immigration policies similar to Australia.Last time i visited the US i was questioned for half an hour,my details checked on some computer and searched(just short of a full cavity search).Next time i might try and get entry via the Mexican border.

The borders will not be sealed until the INS and the Border Patrol are completely reorganized. Both agencies have become completely politicized by the left.
I was told by a border patrol agent that they are under orders to make NO arrests. Michelle Malkin confirmed this order in her book.

I should have added that perhaps this is part of what Bush has in mind for the new privatization of federal jobs - a thorough house cleaning.

I agree that Bush has made the political calculation that sealing the border with Mexico would lose the Hispanic vote (which he thinks, incorrectly in my view, he can charm into the Republican column).
Having said that, even if Bush agressively pursued sealing the borders, the culture of the higher ups in the government is such that he would be hard pressed to succeed. The directors and assistant directors of the agencies charged with that responsibility are part of an elite culture that considers it unenlightened for a nation to insist on maintaining its sovreignty.

Ooooooh-kay, lets look at your step one:
1. First seal the borders.
Explain exactly how you'd go about that, for how long and what you estimate the cost would be. Assuming you mean our borders to the north and south, what about our coastlines ?

*2. Mention a timeline for this lost privacy. No 'continuation triggers' either. Settle for 4 years of this lost privacy. Then destroy the data of all non-suspects. Only keep data of suspects that is deemed worth keeping by a warrant. *
While I like the rest of your suggestions, I believe this one is naive in the extreme. The government never destroys ANY data, and would certainly not comply with a law requiring destruction of data with such encompassing uses.
If they are allowed to compile this data, it is there forever, for every successor administration to use to its own advantage.
