When is Vermont going to secede? They seem to threaten it every few years. I say "Go for it, guys!"

Now, now, Vermont has its good points. It was the birthplace of one my all time heroes:

Regards, Ivan

Leahy is oozing desperation and anxiety at this point. Because the GOP controls the senate and his state is represented by two of the most reviled Democratic senators (Jeffords, for abandoning the Republican party -- and Leahy, for his role in blocking Bush's judicial nominations), Vermont is going to be subject to a punishment of near-biblical proportions.

So, Cleland was with us for Viet Nam but he stepped outside when it came to Saddam Hussein.

Who can imagine what his motives might be. Part of it is probably that bad attitude liberals and their friends have with regard to any action on our part that might precipitate democracy, freedom and civil liberties in what had previously been a totalitarian dictatorship.

Max should improve his opinion of what Arabs are capable of. Then he'd get it right this time too.

On the other hand, did Senator Cleland "volunteer" for the Infantry like I did? Or, was he just a draftee, or maybe a ROTC grad? How about Leahy? Did he volunteer for the Infantry? (Need I ask.)

"But has anyone ever heard how he lost his legs and arm?"

As I understand it he picked up a hand grenade that someone else had accidentally dropped.

As the ads said it wasn't about patriotism but his competence. The RATs - all of them - are beholden to special interests albeit the abortion lobby, unions, socialist organizations. The big question here is why, then, didn't Leahy and others vote for Bob Dole in 96

I am also convinced that Clintonism has become the official religion of the left. I don't say that facetiously. I have never seen so many people willing to sacrifice so much for two such worthless people. The Dims always blather about conservatives' reverence for Reagan. Let me tell you, our respect for RR nowhere approaches the Dim worship of the Kennedys and the Clintons.

What I heard, from a friend at Fort Benning, is that he was a battalion S-4 who decided to go to the field one day, and attached 2 hand grenades to his equipment by those convenient rings on the top. One snagged on something when he got off the helicopter. Others soldiers were wounded as well.

A grenade, once thought to have fallen from his belt, later (many years later) to have probably fallen from the belt of another.

Plenty of things to criticize him over, that's not one.

one of the most decorated war heroes in our country

Leahy's saying that about Cleland??

Cleland received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.

Representative Duke Cunningham flew in Vietnam, was nominated for the Medal of Honor, received the Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, fifteen Air Medals, the Purple Heart, and several other decorations, He was a CO at Navy Fighter Weapons School - Miramar Naval Air Station. His bio is here.

Leahy's a jerk.

He supported a man, for example, in Georgia who was, well, the best way to put it - was a draft dodger who attacked Sen. Cleland on his patriotism.

Sen. Leahy totally misrepresents what Chambliss did in his quote above. Mr. Chambliss attacked Sen. Cleland's voting record, not his patriotism. Sen. Cleland's ACU rating lifetime is a dismal 14, which is only slightly higher than Leahy's truly pathetic 8. Perhaps if Cleland had an ACU rating closer to Zell Miller's 60 he would have won. Gee whiz, Cleland's ACU rating is lower than Jumpin' Jim Jeffords lifetime 27 and barely edges out Dianne Feinstein's 12!!

What a dirty rotten trick, making someone's voting record an issue!

"He supported a man, for example, in Georgia who was, well, the best way to put it - was a draft dodger who attacked Sen. Cleland on his patriotism. And the president joined in that. Sen. Cleland lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam. But the man who avoided the draft several times won.

But gee Senitor D!ckhead, didn't you support Bill Clinton?

I remember one top Democrat before the election complaining that the White House was "politicizing the elections."

Yeah, I think Vermont would make a great addition to Quebec.

What's wrong with getting a Veteran's check and congressional retirement? He earned both fairly, at different times. That's not double dipping. Double dipping is when you have two different jobs at the same time, both supposedly full time jobs. He hasn't done that.

Oct. 9, 2002...

On Wednesday, Sen. Pat Leahy, D-Vt., compared Bush’s resolution to the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin resolution that led to the Vietnam War

Sen. Pat Leahy, D-Vt is asking where the 1.6 billion is going. This smacks of early day Vietnam
