Leahy is oozing desperation and anxiety at this point. Because the GOP controls the senate and his state is represented by two of the most reviled Democratic senators (Jeffords, for abandoning the Republican party -- and Leahy, for his role in blocking Bush's judicial nominations), Vermont is going to be subject to a punishment of near-biblical proportions.

Who can imagine what his motives might be. Part of it is probably that bad attitude liberals and their friends have with regard to any action on our part that might precipitate democracy, freedom and civil liberties in what had previously been a totalitarian dictatorship.

I am also convinced that Clintonism has become the official religion of the left. I don't say that facetiously. I have never seen so many people willing to sacrifice so much for two such worthless people. The Dims always blather about conservatives' reverence for Reagan. What I heard, from a friend at Fort Benning, is that he was a battalion S-4 who decided to go to the field one day, and attached 2 hand grenades to his equipment by those convenient rings on the top. One snagged on something when he got off the helicopter. Others soldiers were wounded as well.

Cleland received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.

Representative Duke Cunningham flew in Vietnam, was nominated for the Medal of Honor, received the Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, fifteen Air Medals, the Purple Heart, and several other decorations, He was a CO at Navy Fighter Weapons School - Miramar Naval Air Station. His bio is here.

Sen. Leahy totally misrepresents what Chambliss did in his quote above. Mr. Chambliss attacked Sen. Cleland's voting record, not his patriotism. Sen. Cleland's ACU rating lifetime is a dismal 14, which is only slightly higher than Leahy's truly pathetic 8. Perhaps if Cleland had an ACU rating closer to Zell Miller's 60 he would have won. Gee whiz, Cleland's ACU rating is lower than Jumpin' Jim Jeffords lifetime 27 and barely edges out Dianne Feinstein's 12!!

What's wrong with getting a Veteran's check and congressional retirement? He earned both fairly, at different times. That's not double dipping. Double dipping is when you have two different jobs at the same time, both supposedly full time jobs. He hasn't done that.
