WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Marcy Kaptur, an Ohio Democrat, entered the race Wednesday for House minority leader -- one day before her colleagues are to vote on whom they want to lead them in next year's Congress.

Kaptur, 56, joins California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, 62, who says she has the race wrapped up, and Rep. Harold Ford Jr., 32, of Tennessee, who says he represents the kind of change needed in the Democratic Party -- especially after the midterm elections in which Democrats lost House seats.

I hope it works. We need Ms. Pelosi to win, thus securing victory in the 2004 elections.

Good. The more they fight amongst themselves, the more divisive they will become. The Democrats are imploding. Pretty soon all that will be left will be the black hole.

And Hillary's pantsuit.

I agree. Pelosi would be wonderful for us. The evil DUers haven't caught on yet, and I don't think they will. Maybe we should pretend we don't want her to win? Turning hard left is the wrong thing for them.

You mean to tell me that Hillary's pantsuit isn't the black hole?

There is no way the next Minority Leader is going to be anything other than a minority (black, female, gay, whatever): White males need not apply.

Actually, isn't that pretty much the rule for DemocRatic Party membership nowadays?

This just illustrates that the "thinking" Dems are in the minority as Pelosi has the votes needed already. It's these minority Dems that realize if a radicl Leftist like Pelosi gets elected the party will lose support from moderates such as the soccer moms.

No, I don't think so. That one has so much bovine excrement coming out of her, nothing could get sucked in.

I've had a look at Kaptur's ratings by various interest groups as listed at Project Vote Smart. While she is of course a liberal, she is less liberal than Pelosi.

For those interested, have a look at:

http://www.vote-smart.org/index.phtml

Enter the name Kaptur, then go to Interest Groups.

Kaptur would be a much better choice for the Dems. Coming from a very Republican heartland state, she has a far more moderate constituency than Pelosi. She would not be part of a socalist echo chamber of California extremists. If she went too liberal as Minority Leader, she would be in danger of losing her own House seat. She is also from a middle class background and not a rich, limousine liberal like Pelosi. She is Catholic as well (although pro-abort, but not screamingly so as is Pelosi.)

Not positive, but I believe Kaptur is also member of Progressive Caucus. She'll likely take votes from Pelosi resulting in win for Ford.

Correct, Kaptur is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, an arm of the Democratic Socialists. See link below. If she represents the "moderate" wing of the Democrat party, they are in big trouble!

I agree that Pelosi would be a bad choice for the Dems, but I am cautiously optimistic. I remember in 1998 that many of my conservative Republican friends were going to vote for Gray Davis in the open primary because they thought he was the weakest candidate. Nothing more needs to be said.

'socialist echo chamber' ... that's great.
