You know, I have mixed feelings about Knight, but from what I remember, it is very possible that the incident that eventually got him fired was sort of a set-up. If I remember correctly, the kid involved was the son of some guy who hated Knight. Knight was on "zero-tolerance" probation, and it is likely that most people would guess that Knight's reaction to what the kid said would be typical Bob Knight.
But, who's to say he wouldn't have done something else between then and now that would have gotten him fired.

You know, I've never liked him much either, but the incident involving his dismissal was precipitated by his taking offense to being addressed by the words "Hey Knight". How many of you would have had the gall to address your college professor or coach in that manner, like him or not. If I had been the university chancellor, I'd have backed him up for that reason alone.(Although a battle of some sort did ensue, there were conflicting accounts of that.)

How many of you would have had the gall to address your college professor or coach in that manner, like him or not. Exactly what I was talking about. The kid more than likely knew that Knight would not like being addressed like that. And I think he actually said something like, "Hey, what's up Knight".

Surely he doesn't think he can get a jury to find in his favor after the defense starts showing tapes of his behavior, starting with the chair throwing incident.
When thy put the secretaries that he mistreated on the stand he's going to end up looking like a monster.
If I were Bobby, I'd do my best to keep any of my IU escapades from being brought out in front of the public again.

Yes, Knight was set up. Yes, IU President Brand wanted Knight gone.
Brand had to send his family to an undisclosed place after Brand did this to Knight. The town of Bloomington was in an uproar over this. Brand picked the WRONG case to fire Knight. It was bogus.
Yes, Knight lost his temper toooo many times. On the other side, Knight put pressure on his team to get their grades. Knight did not give them a pass as many coaches do. If they didn't make their grades, they didn't play.
Would I want my son to play for Knight? No. But those who did play for him....knew what was expected.... knew what they were in for. Why sign up for the army if you are not willing to take the crap?

Knight was on zero tolerance probation. He couldn't resist acting like the cowardy bully he is. too bad.

Wasn't the kid involved the son of a wealthy alumnus who hated Knight?

To: FreeTally
Yes. And the kid had to leave IU... the town/college students, made him sorry he did what he did. I'm not sure if the parents of the kid left also or not.
It was bogus. That is what bothered everyone.
To: frnewsjunkie
LOL!! Glad to hear that about the kid.

Ol' Robert Montgomery Knight is finally tired of coaching for a losing team. Took a year longer than I expected...

I'm sure that Knight was merely attempting to create a sense of respect, not indulging his desires to dominate and inflict pain on those who can't fight back. 9/sarcasm off)

Yep - he finally realizes he's not a Hoosier anymore.

You have no idea about what occurred.
To: FreeTally
You have no idea about what occurred. Knight's repetitive pattern of boorish behavior (especially toward those who couldn't easily resist him) long ago erased any benefit of the doubt. He's a bully, plain and simple.
