[history]
In the weak light of dawn Wednesday, Rep. John Thune clung to a narrow lead in the U.S. Senate race that the traditional Republican West River stronghold had delivered late the night before.
Three hours later, however, Sen. Tim Johnson was re-elected by a 528-vote margin.

"It was a mistake putting Johnson back in when the Republicans won the Senate. If we had elected Thune, we would have had more leverage," he says.
"If the Democrats had maintained power, that would have been really useful with Daschle still the majority leader. But my opinion is, it backfired."
Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

Is he going to repay them the billions that was looted out of their trust fund by the Democratic Clinton administration? I bet not.

Let's add this up:
- Johnson is a DEM
- Johnson owes his seat to the S. Dakota tribes
- He wants them to be rewarded
- The Republicans are in control of the Senate
Sounds like somebody bet on the wrong horse.

I think the Sioux have disgraced their people by supporting greedy, lying white men. And with a fellow Native American brother-Nighthorse Campbell, whose great-grandfather fought along Crazy Horse a Republican... You know the Demonrats were whoring the vote. And don't be surprised that Thune was undone by vote fraud, illegitimate votes and people who DON'T exist. I hope they at least have a recount. This has got to stop.

This is starting to sound like a "quid pro quo."

Let 'em be their own nation, as a result they no longer have a say in who we elect and no more financial handouts. Let them build it up themselves, put up or shut up time folks.

How like the Democrats to find another minority group to exploit.
To: Letitring
Absolutely. Same old loathesome tactics.

Don't blame the indians. Many S. Dakotans cynically voted for the buddy of the "Majority Leader." The problem is that the Leader will be Trent Lott or some other Republican come January. Wipe the egg off your face, South Dakota.

Click Here to read a study that says that South Dakota rank #50 in the states in integrity in government. Somehow I think these articles are related.

Yeah, there's a lot of morons that voted for Johnson, BUT as of 1:30 AM, Thune had a 2500 - 3000 vote lead, with the outstanding votes mainly coming from the reservations.

Yep way to go SD you cheated yourself right out a voice in the majority party.
Johnson and Dashole reminds me of the joke about the little Indian boy who wanted to know how he got his name. The chief of the tribe looked out said look yonder there--there are 2 dogs @#$%^^.

The indians only tipped the balance. The question is why a state which voted so heavily for George Bush should turn around and choose a Democrat as senator? Local pride in having a big shot in Washington seems to have warped the judgement of the voters. Like the Arkansans who wanted everyone to lay off of Clinton, even though many of them knew what sort of guy he was. Well, the sort of guy he is, is that he now lives in Harlem.

DA_TOOLMAN WROTE: "Let 'em be their own nation, as a result they no longer have a say in who we elect and no more financial handouts. Let them build it up themselves, put up or shut up time folks."
AMEN to that!!! They shouldn't be able to have it BOTH ways!

It is my understanding that the last 1,000 votes came in at 9:30 AM the NEXT MORNING (i.e. AFTER the RATS KNEW how much they had to beat) and they were virtually ALL for Johnson. I don't believe the alleged results. The Pubs need to be going through ALL "voters" in that last county.
Also, as one who has worked in NUMEROUS elections, I can tell you that there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO REASON WHY IT SHOULD TAKE MORE THAN TWO HOURS AFTER THE POLLS CLOSE TO GET THE RESULTS IN!!!!!!!
There is FRAUD, folks!!!!! There is NO REASON to take until 9:30 the NEXT MORNING!!!!!
