Kerry set to move on '04 run

By Glen Johnson, Globe Staff, 11/10/2002

NASHUA - Senator John F. Kerry will file a statement of candidacy for the presidency this month, according to a top aide, the first official step toward a campaign the senator believes can be won largely in northern states with an aggressive defense of Democratic ideals.

The Massachusetts Democrat is expected to offer a detailed prescription for restoring the economy, including restructuring the president's tax cut toward the middle class, a major component of his campaign.

On Friday, Kerry met with an array of Democratic leaders in the first presidential primary state and blamed his party's poor showing in the midterm elections on its failure to offer a clear, positive vision for the country. He also credited President Bush's success in focusing the nation on the national security risks posed by Iraq.

Kerry told the Globe in an interview that Iraq poses a threat with potential weapons of mass destruction, but none greater than it has posed for years and not one that had to be addressed with a congressional debate in the two months before an election.

They moved the hydrant for Mrs. Heinz! She had a white SUV with a license number 57. She insisted on parking next to the hydrant - so they had to move it. John can't be too thrilled about all the H monograms on everything. After all, 'H' isn't his monogram. But H is where the money comes from so I guess John figures it's a good trade-off.

"Mass has a GOP Governor who will appoint his successor in the Senate! Yea!!"

I have to admit I had my doubts that our new GOP governor was the best candidate. But so far, so good...he ran a good campaign, appears to have the people's trust, and has some good ideas on how to lead. So I'm warming to the guy. But have you seen bloated Ted Kennedy recently? Our senior uh, uh, senator who uh can't get a sentence out? Alcohol has not been good to him, and I seriously doubt he'll finish his term. I don't know if Heinz-Kerry will have to resign his seat in order to run for president. But there's a good chance Gov. Romney will be appointing Ted Kennedy's successor to the Senate rather than Kerry's.

Kerry also has certain baggage that could easily hurt him in the presidential election. Massachusetts has 11 US Congressmen and of course 2 US Senators. All 13 of them are Democrats and all are wealthy white males. If there was ever a state to point to the hypocrisy of the democrats claim to sharing power with minorities, Massachusetts is the best.

Kerry and the the rest of the "conventional wisdom" Senate democrats would lose and probably lose big. Bayh I think is probably the most formidable of them.

A governor is what worries me. Especially one in fly over country like Tom Vilsack of Iowa. Pay attention freepers.

Kerry's a soft talker, but he's not a "likeable" man. I think voters who aren't paying much attention to politics will be turned off by him simply because he's not "likeable."

A little like the Dasshole?

Kerry is going to be a much more formidable candidate than Mike Dukakis, in my opinion. You have to admit that's not saying much, however off all the potential

Well at least Kerry isn't a short shrimp like Dukakis was.

I look forward to John Kerry explaining again how he threw someone else's medals away in an anti-war protest. Might cost him crucial votes in TN, AR, WV, MO, and other swing states. This photograph is from that protest, that doesn't look to be Kerry; I think the quote is from Kerry.

Kerry is telegenic

Sam, you and I have completely different ideas of what "telegenic" means.

John Fitzgerald Kerry looks like a very, very bad caricature of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

(I know his middle name isn't Fitzgerald but I am sure he'll get it changed soon).

I listened to him on Stepinthecrap's show this morning. Old John was given about 40 minutes of essentially uninterrupted face time. And he recited most ALL of the tired old issues the Dumbocraps always come up with.

In addition, he looked like a tired old hound dog who has the mange.

This guy ain't remotely telegenic even if that hair is really his, which I doubt.

Ok, anyone worried about Kerry, tell me one state he will win that Gore did not. Tennessee? Arkansas? Florida? Rather, I think GWB will get MN, IA,WS, and AZ this time, plus all the states he got last time. Any other 04 predictions?

If she (Hillary) becomes VP, the head guy needs to wear body armor 24/7 and hire a food taster.

My nomination for Quote of the Day. It's just so goddamned true.

Actually, no we don't. I was only referring to what others thought of him.

We call him Senator Heinz, after his ketchup heiress wife Teresa, whose fortune he is using to bankroll his political career.

Teresa Heinz is a revolting whore to the left-wing. Her husband served honorably and he and his family have been solid Republicans for decades. As soon as he dies (tragically and perhaps suspiciously, in a helicopter crash in PA), this little bitch uses his billions to bankroll Socialist causes and abortion cult candidates across the nation, spitting in the face of her dead husband and his family.

Teresa Heinz is a disgusting pig. Thankfully American will repudiate John Kerry and make 2004 synonymous with 1972 in terms of electoral landslide.

Have you thought about NM Bill getting into the fray? He has long said to have presidential aspiration and wanted to be Gore's running mate too.

So somewhere from 4 to 9. More?

Hillary is out til 08. She can't afford to take on Bush.

Lieberman, Gephardt, Gore, Sharpton, and probably a surprise. I say watch out for NM Governor Bill Richardson.

Initially I poo-poo the idea of Tom Nutsack of Iowa. Mostly because of lack of money, and being from small state Iowa. However he does not come off too swarmy, and he was one of the few D bright spots last week.

The DesMoines Register had an article today, mentioning this very subject. I initially saw it as homerism, but maybe he could be the real deal. The article talked about Gov Dean of Vermont as well. They were trying to decide who a good party leader could be. They preferred a governor over a senator/rep.
