Preview: Michigan at Minnesota Nov. 6, 2002 By Chris David VegasInsider.com
Two teams in the Big Ten apparently headed in different directions square off this weekend, as No. 13 Michigan travels to the Metrodome Saturday night to face Minnesota.
The battle for The Little Brown Jug has been anything but. The Wolverines have won the last 13 meetings, including last seasons victory at home as 16-point favorites, 31-10.
Michigan has won 30 of the last 32 meetings in this series. The Wolverines are also unbeaten in their last eight meetings at the Metrodome.

Michigan came to Minnesota in 1903 with one of the best teams of the early 20th century era. The team had its famed "point-a-minute offense" in high gear under their great coach Fielding Yost.
The teams met at old Northrop Field on the Minnesota campus and played to a 6-6 tie. The visitors were reportedly in such a hurry to leave the field that they didn't take all their equipment with them. Among the things they left behind was their water jug. The heavily Swedish Minnesota equipment manager reported to the coach, who I believe was Clarence "Doc" Spears, though I could be wrong, that "Yost left his yug", and offered it to the coach.
When Yost contacted Minnesota to get his property back, the Gopher staff suggested that the Wolverines would have to win it back. Thus, one of the oldest trophies in college football was born.
As the ol' bumper sticker used to say:
Keep Ohio clean. Dump your trash in Michigan
North 'til you smell it, West 'til you step in it.
Tony (In Ohio!)
You know what their state bird is, right? The fly.
Hey! That's the People's Democratic Republic Collective of Ann Arbor to you nuts! ;-)
Honestly. Who in their right mind uses the inedible nutlike seed of the horse chestnut as their mascot?
