Libertarians are big time spoilers in Gov races

* means NRA endorsment. Grade is the NRA grade.

Alabama:

*(D) Siegelman 674,052 A+

(R) Riley 670,913 A

(L) Sophocleus 23,242

Oregon:

(D) Kulongoski 493,385 C+

(R) Mannix 490,745 A

(L) Cox 47,444

Wisconsin:

(D) Doyle 800,958 F

*(R) McCallum 732,781 A

(L) Thompson 185,085

Wyoming:

(D) Freudenthal 89,407 A-

*(R) Bebout 85,556 A+

(L) Dawson 3,800

Not to mention that Thune will probably lose South Dakota Senate seat by a smaller margin that the Libertarian in that race got...

(D) Johnson 167,481 C+

*(R) Thune 166,954 A

(L) Evans 3,071

So basically Libertarians brought 2 anti-gun governors, and possibly kept Daschle's clone in power. My question is why Libertarians run against good pro-gun candidates? I realize that there are other issues besides guns. Meanwhile people of Wisconsin have to wait another 4 years for gun licenses...

Surely if more republicans showed up you would have won

Or if the Libertarian who showed up had used a little common sense and voted Republican in a tight race...

I agree with your analysis. After all, they are mostly pro abortion. So, many of them would vote for the demorats if given a choice.

That's an excellent and very enlightening analysis. The Libertarian bashers here would do well to read it.

If the individual states would go back to allowing "None Of The Above" on the ballot, y'all wouldn't have the third party candidates to use as a scapegoat for lack-luster campaigns by the major parties. Most people that select independent candidates on the ballot simply do not want to vote for anyone that does not represent their views or they cannot discern a difference between the two major candidates (Dem or 'Pub) on the issues that are important to them.

(I believe that Nevada is the only state now that provides the voters with the NOTA option on the ballot)

[Libertarians are mostly pro abortion.

Is that just pure conjecture on your part, the product of ignorance, or do you actually have something to substantiate that statement?

I happen to be a pro-life libertarian and most other libertarians I know are also pro-life. Libertarians are Constitutionalists, and one of the fundamental tenets of the Constitution is that government is formed by men to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

remember, Libertarians espouse free pot, free booze, free sex, etc

Libertarians don't advocate FREE anything, meaning distributed free of cost. Subsidies of any sort are not in any way compatible with Libertarianism. Letting the market decide without government interference is.

We advocate letting people freely make their own choices, and letting them sink or swim.

Reagan knew this, when he said that libertarianism was the heart of conservatism.

Umm,excuse me, but WI has had a Republican govenor for 16 years or more. Why doesn't the state have a concealed carry law yet?

And a Democrat controlled Senate, which refused to bring the legislation up for a vote.

Next question?

Do you know anyone that calls theirself libertarian that is pro-abortion? Most believe it is premeditated murder and is not the business of the Fed Gov.

FWIW we all have the choice to vote for democrats.

We Republicans continue to agonize over this problem while Libertarians view this as a prank, similar to junior high.

Always remember that it's not possible to talk to Libertarians because they do NOT CARE when Bill Clinton is president and Hillary is a senator.

They interpret their contribution to electing democrats as punishment for us because we Republicans don't live up to their SUPERIOR STANDARDS.

If the GOP adhered more faithfully to it's declared platform, the Libertarians would have a lot less to justifiably complain about. The wins seen on Tuesday are a direct result of the Republicans finally fielding substantial enough candidates who didn't abandon their bases.

Something for the GOP to consider.

This is patently untrue of the Libertarians I know, of which I was recently one.

I am for run-off for Governor when no one gets 50%! I am also from Oklahoma and the Indy Richardson got 100,000+ votes because of his stand on everything is free!

In all fairness though, I didn't think that Largent ran an effective campaign by not responding to attacks of Richardson who was nothing more than a pomposs Clymer who used $2.3 million of his own money to defeat Largent!

libertarianism was the heart of conservatism.

And so is common sense...I voted libertarian on Tuesday BUT there was no Republican running against the RAT.

How many libertarians are better off when they fail to cast a vote for the conservative candidate and the liberal wins?

We have the choice. Why didn't we do it?

If Libertarians would otherwise vote for democrats, then you should be happy about votes syphoned off from the 'crats. Since you know that really isn't true, you spout bitter lies about them.

I can see why you would say that, but if I had to choose between 2 retarded cousins, and those were my ONLY realistic choices, I always choose the one who will spend less, even if they both spend more than I would like.

We will NEVER get to a Libertarian society without FIRST passing through a Conservative one. So you are either on the path TORWARDS the society you seek, or YOU ARE NOT.

This is what the LP called being "principled"

Um, better not put principles down too much, they might come in handy someday.

but doesn't seen to notice that by doing so he is losing the war.

Speaking of losing the war, and this comment will only matter to you if you are a conservative, the winning "stra-tee-gery" of the future will be center right/center left coalition. Have heard some neocons discussing this. And in case you haven't noticed there has been a purge of conservatives going on. The Rove/Bush team has been heavy handed in GOP state primaries endorsing moderates and sticking it to conservatives. If you are true to conservative principles you may soon find yourself in a third party.

Sadly, after two days of debating the Libertarians here, I am forced to agree with you.
