Libertarians are big time spoilers in Gov races

* means NRA endorsment. Grade is the NRA grade.

Alabama:

*(D) Siegelman 674,052 A+

(R) Riley 670,913 A

(L) Sophocleus 23,242

Oregon:

(D) Kulongoski 493,385 C+

(R) Mannix 490,745 A

(L) Cox 47,444

Wisconsin:

(D) Doyle 800,958 F

*(R) McCallum 732,781 A

(L) Thompson 185,085

Wyoming:

(D) Freudenthal 89,407 A-

*(R) Bebout 85,556 A+

(L) Dawson 3,800

Not to mention that Thune will probably lose South Dakota Senate seat by a smaller margin that the Libertarian in that race got...

(D) Johnson 167,481 C+

*(R) Thune 166,954 A

(L) Evans 3,071

So basically Libertarians brought 2 anti-gun governors, and possibly kept Daschle's clone in power. My question is why Libertarians run against good pro-gun candidates? I realize that there are other issues besides guns. Meanwhile people of Wisconsin have to wait another 4 years for gun licenses...

ITB,

For you Libertarians are a "galley of looney tune canidates (from dying themselves blue,
holding their pet ferretts in campaing photos
"
What, have you no sense of humor? Does this you mean that if you lived in Brazil you wouldn't have voted for da Silva just because of the parrot?

Seriously though you say "I will NEVER vote Libertatian" Perhaps a infusion of conservatives will make it a "serious" party. You seem to believe a vote for a libertarian is a vote for a Democrat. There could be a good arguement made for that result coming from voting for a Republican. They seem to have advanced the Democrat agenda quite well over the years. The Dems stake out a postion, the Pubes water it down and shepard it through to passage. Think about.
cordially,

Once the Republicans start to vote the way they say they believe, I'll start to be sympathetic.

I suppose if you republicans stop embracing socialism and statism, I will vote for you again. Between the way republicans act when they get in power and the way you all treat libertarians here, I decided not to vote for the lesser of two evils anymore. No thanks.

We send messages to the party, incumbents, and candidates all the time.

I don't think that they "get" the idea of representative government.

Im a libertarian, and i am anything but a democrat. I believe social welfare doesnt work, guns in the hands of responsible people are not a problem, the war on drugs is a failure, and that a lot of government programs would be more efficient if privatized. These ideals dont exactly mesh with those of democrats. I vote republican because the republican party's beliefs are similar to mine. If libertarians would run as republicans, they would probably do all right. The whole 3rd party/outsider tag is what kills them.

No, that is not what I meant. I was talking about your statement "syphoning votes from Republicans" or something close to that, anyway. Look, I don't want to insult you, or anyone else, or be insulted. I just don't understand what you want from the Republican Party. I don't know why you don't dog the Democrats at least as much as you do us.

Man, though, you libertarians are a prickly bunch.

Calling Clinton a Libertarian is about as big an insult as can be had. Clinton was a Baptist, too - it would be comparable to calling him a conservative Christian.

I better duck my head when I drive past the Cato Institute tonight.

Don't tell them Clinton was a closet Libertarian, and you won't need to duck.

"One potential flaw in your analysis is the implicit assumption that those who vote Libertarian would vote Republican if no Libertarian candidate was running. I am not so sure that is true."

EXACTLY!

we need to SUPPORT the Liberaltarians much like Perot supported Clintoon.....

Push the drugs on college campuses and in the inner city.....that will take away millions of votes for the Democrats and the GOP will win.....easy as that

Lets start using the Liberaltarians......

lets use them to defeat the demorats.....

We send messages to the party, incumbents, and candidates all the time.

Yes, and the message is; We are little sheep, we bought into your "hate the Dems, fear the Dems" BS and we are willing to vote for you no matter what you stand for. The message is; we don't care about the constitution, we don't want to be free, we will be the useful idiots for your power lust.

That's the message you are sending. If you meant to send a different message, they didn't get it.

I agree. To all the people who believe that Republicans should have a claim on libertarian votes...you know, like socialists should have a claim on your money...when you can show me a candidate who loses after 100% of your eligible Republican voters actually turn and and vote come back and talk. In other words, all of these candidates would have won had all of the Republican voters actually voted.

It isn't their money, and it isn't their votes.
It isn't your money. I

"...you could make a convincing case that Clinton was a closet Libertarian."

To the insane, perhaps. Do I really need to present here the long list of anti-libertarian policies that Clinton implemented during his eight long years? Let's start with Somalia, Haiti and Kosovo and move on to universal health care and move on to the Family Leave Act, the Clinton tax increase and the Microsoft anti-trust suit...

Get the picture...?

No, you can't take the high road. I have never read such insults to people as issue forth from the mouth of Libertarian posters. MOST of the time, unprovoked insults aimed at whoever differs with whatever opinion is being put forth, that day.

This gets my vote for Post of the Year. It should be placed right below "Defending Our Constitution" on the first page of this site.

Regarding the Simon loss to Davis just remember Bush/Rove wanted Reirden(sp?) in the primaries because Simon was too conservative. Guess what this election "proves" to them? They were right and they will continue to purge conservatives from the party. And folks around here say conservatives should stay in the GOP and take it over from with in. Hint- aint gunna happen.

Actually, I think the DEMS just outdid the L party by running this last election based on a single-plank platform - vengance.

Oh I see, you just don't know how to express yourself. It's not that you wanted to smear people and try and get away with it, it's that you are careless.

I think that you purposely attempted to float the old lie, but I am willing to concede that that might not be the case. That you were the victim of a bad education is also a possibilty.

Yes, I can. I am not throwing vicious insults at you. If you guys stood for what you claim to stand for, I might vote republican. But you don't. I voted for Bush. Then he shows up with the "patriot" act that subverts most of the Bill of Rights. Yet you claim you are pro-Constitution. Well, it just got gutted on your watch.
