Delivering a Touch of Home

A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Snow Bunny

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.

.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

Thank you for posting the picture of Ted Maher at 16.

Ted's other home on Free Republic is at the current Ted Maher site.

Now that the UN has moved toward a resolution on Iraq and we have a Republican House and Senate, the way is clear to get some in the Middle East.

Toricelli was in the tradition of Church in degrading the CIA.

It's coming back with the Predator/Hellfire al Qaeda Six-Back Bar-B-Q in Yemen a few days ago.

And it will be busily gathering intel to pave the way to Baghdad.

The finest fighting force in the world is poised to make history and change the course of it for the next century.

Without Saddam Hussein the black hole will swallow up Ayatollah and Arafat.

The change in the demeanor of the Saudis will be dramatic.

We'll have uninterrupted oil, and reduce the threat of terrorism to the absolute zero of a BDA.

God Speed all the warriors through the storm and home.

Remind your friends: Guns don't kill people, doctors do.

Good one, tomkow6! I'm constantly arguing with some anti-gun friends that a well-armed community is a safer community. As for moi, I come from a pro-gun family. I'm so proud of my nieces and nephews (youngest is 11 yrs old) - they are better shots than me! Well....I am near sighted.

She never finished her story because I had to go - she called me at work. However, we are getting together for some celebration this weekend and I'll get the details.

A nice fireplace, a lovely table set for dinner that turns into a pool table! That is cool, Tonkin! THANKS! I love to play pool. Not the best player but I'm ok.

ANNOUNCEMENT

LaDivaLoca is the winner of Long Cut's "Name That Camaro" contest!

The name "La Contessa" was chosen by Long Cut and his wife, the lovely and gracious Mrs. Cut, for their new Camaro. Of the new name, Long Cut had this to say: "That's right, LaDivaLoca took it with her suggestion for naming the Camaro 'La Contessa', The Countess! I think it's quite appropriate, and fitting for such a lady, not to mention slightly...threatening, in an exotic way."

WAY TO GO, DIVA!
Thanks to all who participated in the contest!
Special thanks to LindaSOG for the graphics - Linda, you rock!

Ok, who's driving tonight, or are we taking turns? This is too cute, huh? We'll definitely need Velcro for anyone riding on top. We don't want to leave anyone behind!
