The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home

A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae

Did you ever see the SCTV skit where they were the punk band "The Queenhaters"?

LOL!! They could just be related. The resemblance is awfully close!
(I'm glad I have my Coke mug sitting far, far away tonight.)

I really like the "Operation Enduring Freedom" pic!
That is a funny intro, tomkow6! I expect nothing less from you. LOL! So, have you caught the perpetrators yet?

I also heard about the reading of the names on the "the Wall" this weekend. They said it would take about 65 hours to complete. Too many names!!!! sniff! I think it's wonderful they are doing this.

A carpet layer had just finished installing carpet for a lady. He thinks about stepping out for a smoke, only to realize he's lost his cigarettes. Then he sees it -- in the middle of the room, under the carpet, is a bump.
"No sense pulling up the entire carpet for one pack of smokes," he says to himself. So he gets out his hammer and flattens the bump.
As he is cleaning up, the lady walks in. "Here," she says handing him his pack of cigarettes. "I found them in the hallway. Now, would you mind helping me look for my gerbil?"

A well-carried provisional chamber, being necessary to the fullfillment of a feline's whims, shall not be infringed. In other words: The cat is entitled to EAT anytime he/she wants.

Didn't get a chance to post here yesterday and 11/5 but I kept up by reading the threads. I woke up, prayed and said my thanks to God for giving us another chance to make things right. My heartfelt thanks to our military and Vets for making all this possible - if not for them, we wouldn't be here enjoying our freedom to exercise our rights especially our right to vote! And THANK GOD for President Bush! I am a very happy camper!
My sis-in-law told me that when my brother woke up on Wednesday, he said that before he leaves for work he would like to see Katie Couric cry first. LOL!!!

Number of gun owners in the USA: 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups): 1,500
Accidental deaths per gun owner: 0.0000188
Number of physicians in the USA: 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year: 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician: 0.171
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous
than gun owners.
Fact: Not everyone has a gun, but sooner or later everyone
has a doctor.
Remind your friends: Guns don't kill people, doctors do.

Thank you for the beautiful roses, Tonkin!

GROAN!! But I can empathize. We added on to our house. I helped clean the floor before carpet was put down. Carpet goes down and there is a lump to this very day. Nothing is missing, but WHAT IS THAT LUMP?? Every time I step on it, I am reminded of a story such as yours.
