I'll go for "Where were you . . ." But you can't really expect Jackson to understand the world if he watches CNN.

That Brad Paisley song about fishing is really annoying. Not the sentiments of the song, mind you, for I will choose fishing over hanging around the house anyday, but the song itself grates on the nerves after a while. It's just not that well crafted a song and I'm surprised to see it made the list of the five "best."

I like Alan Jackson a lot but that "World Stopped Turning" song is kinda lame. Especially when he mentions about watching CNN. Groan. "Drive" is OK but not among his greatest hits in my opinion.

"Blessed" by Martina McBride is also kind of lame. Martina does sing one of my favorite modern country songs ("Independence Day") but that was from another year.

That leaves only one possible choice for best country song of the year, doesn't it? Let's hope Toby Keith takes the prize for "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue".

Any song that would cause a girly-man like Peter Jennings to get into a snit and boycott it is okay by me.

That is a tough one, I love "Blessed," "Angry American," and "Where were you." My bet will be on "Where were you."

I really love Paisley's song (the video is hilarious, have you seen it?), but it isn't one of the top five to me, either.

Was it too late in the year for The Dixie Chicks' "Long Time Gone" or Darryl Worley's "I Miss My Friend"?

Martina seems to have gone into anti-male mode (Although I have her first 4 albums).

Didn't "World Stop Turning" get nominated last year? (Or was that when it premiered?). I like Drive a lot, though.

I pick Toby Keith's "Red, White, & Blue" to win as well, since Cletus T. Judd wasn't nominated.

I would've voted for Toby Keith, but three cheers to Alan J. for winning for "Best Song".

I was glad to see the writer of "Man of Constant Sorrow" from "O Brother Where Art Thou" got nominated.

Tell you the truth I like Montgomery/Gentry's "My Town". Those boys have a little edge to their country.

That was when it premiered I think. I really like all of these songs. Any other time I would vote for "Drive" because it reminds me of my childhood. This year though, it has to be Toby Keith.

Best country song I've heard in ages is "Her Perfect Memory" by Don Williams, off the incredible "I Turn the Page" album. It came out a few years ago, but I just got it, so it's the best song I've heard in 2002. BTW, I saw Don Williams live recently, and he's better than ever. God, what a voice. Wouldn't trade 100 of these new young faux-country-pop hunks and hotties for him.

Best song I've heard that actually came out in 2002 was Willie Nelson's "Maria, Shut Up And Kiss Me."

But since I'm limited to the five nominees, gotta be Toby Keith.

...Alan Jackson is disqualified for mentioning CNN

Hey, listen carefully. He sings, "I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran."

Isn't that the typical CNN watcher? I watch FOX and I can tell Iraq from Iran. CNN watchers aren't sure what the difference is.

And did I detct Toby getting ticked off by the end of the night due to Jackson winning *everything* and his winning nothing?

Early in the evening, when they were announcing the nominees for "Best Male Vocalist" Toby was smiling, smirking, and just ready to jump up and win again.

Contrast this to how he looked at the end of the night when they showed him while announcing the "Entertainer of the Year" category. He was practically scowling, with an irritated look on his face.

It lookled like even Alan Jackson was embarassed by all his awards. He actually said "I'm sorry" when he won the Entertainer award.

I thought of Toby singing to Alan Jackson, "I like talking about you, you, usually. But every once in a while, I wanna talk about *me*."
