If you pray to God for something as insignificant as this, I think you should review your priorities.

Hey, Abundy, can you elaborate on Winona being charged with burglary (and being acquitted of the charge) re my post #188?

That's interesting. So if I'm convicted of a crime, then jump bail before sentencing and disappear, I'm never legally a "convicted felon"? Or am I sentenced in absentia?

Did she just get out of bed, throw on some clothes and forget to do her hair?

I'm no criminal lawyer, but if she has no prior record I would think she would get nothing more then a fine and maybe parole?

her insurance rates for film shoots will go through the roof, as a convicted felonI keep hearing this from the talkfaces on the tube, but have the feeling they are just repeating what they perceive to be each other's wisdom. So, the insurance costs a few extra thousand. What is that to a movie's budget?
I'd guess that her movie career will be rejuvenated. Perhaps she and the Striesand will do a horror flick, in which they battle the ghost of Primo Canera for the soul of the Democratic party.

Who CARES???!!!
Do we all have to jump like Pavlov's dogs just because the US media tells us something is "important", or 'BREAKING NEWS!". This is the most stupid thing I have read.
"Page 18....North Korea--teeth to lip-close to US troops, now perfecting Taepodong -2 long intermediate range missile technology, and has 2-3 nukes as well as smallpox." .... but I guess that is not important. Sheesh.

You are probably right.

So if I'm convicted of a crime, then jump bail before sentencing and disappear, I'm never legally a "convicted felon"? That's right; you would be subject to arrest under a bench warrant for bail-jumping, but you wouldn't be a "convicted felon" until you were caught and sentenced.

I have to admit, Heathers was a funnyass movie.

Whoever advised Ryder to take this case to court is an incompetent fool.I thought she has been insisting that the prosecution refused to bargain and insisted on a trial.
My guess is that Hollywood types have been openly stealing for a long time and the stores are fed up with it. This is a shot across the bow of the "everybody does it" crowd.

Slater's "I see there's an open door policy on assholes" to the jocks in the cafeteria is also one of my all time favorite movie lines.

Guilty of GRAND THEFT and VANDALISM..........the burglary count would have involved using some type of instrument or weapon. I guess the scissors cutting the tags off didn't quite make it with the jury. Not quite. Burglary involves the entry of a building with the intent to commit theft. So you have to have the intent when you enter. Usually that intent is proved by the nature of the entry or the 'tools' brought along.
Here, the jury merely found that they did not have enough proof that she had the intent when she entered (since she entered a store open for business). However, the grand theft conviction does show they found she had the intent when she left.
Grand theft is a 'wobbler' in CA, i.e. it is either a felony or a misdemeanor depending on the sentence imposed. Since she will get (at most) local time and probation, the conviction will be a misdemeanor and can be expunged from her record upon successful completion of probation.
But as the ad says, the publicity is 'priceless.'

Well I like Winnona, but you I'm just a guy who hasn't had the connection between his two heads severed. As far as movie insurance, if they search her each day and inventory the equipment what the hell!

........ I guess I am tired of celebrities getting away with crimes( Hillary, The Juice --by the way he is in the news again today --etc).
To: kcvl
What is it that the media does not understand in the difference in burglary and thief/grand thief? They continue to act the question.
