That's interesting. So if I'm convicted of a crime, then jump bail before sentencing and disappear, I'm never legally a "convicted felon"? Or am I sentenced in absentia?

That's right; you would be subject to arrest under a bench warrant for bail-jumping, but you wouldn't be a "convicted felon" until you were caught and sentenced.
