As I posted before, the reason SD voted for Bush but supports Daschle is that it is a small, poor state that needs power-players in both parties to get federal money.

It's still a small, poor state -- what exactly has he done for them (besides get an exemption from the enviro's for the forests)? I heard somewhere that Daschle has built his support by providing excellent "constituent services" (rather like Teddy K here in MA).

Many of the RINOS are in a balancing act, in which they have a liberal constituency at home, but a conservative President. This will make the relationship rocky to say the least. What needs to occur is for the Republicans to win MN, SD, and LA in December - that way there is a safety margin.

So overall, is it correct that polls were too optimistic for the dems? Maybe they will need to adjust for Republican secret sauce in the future, to be more accurate.

All polls have a RAT bias. And I don't mean an intentional bias; it's just a known fact that all polls taken will end up giving the RATS a few points more "support" than they actually have. They try to factor it out, but usually fail. Nobody's ever pinpointed the reason for this, but I think it's mainly because a lot of people are still afraid to tell anyone they're a Republican, lest they be screeched at, called a racist, etc. So they tell the pollster they're voting RAT, of course they're voting RAT, but then vote GOP in the privacy of the voting booth.

The Farm Bill (aka farm welfare) is huge. Also the influx (or lack thereof) of federal money after the draught last summer was a big campaign issue.

I'm still hopeful. I thought massive voter fraud would take all the close races, and it didn't happen. South Dakota and Minnesota don't seem to me to be as likely to have big-time cheating going on - with a more split legislature and electorate it's hard to hide that sort of stuff. The states where a single party dominates are a lot more likely to pull off something like that (but even Hawaii was able to get past it this time!)

Absolutely. For the last two years, the Demodogs have been trying to figure out whether having the 'Toon on their side is good or bad, claiming the USSC beat them, that D'ashle is good news, whether it was great for the three traitors to go to Iraq, whether they should oppose or side with Bush against the terrorists, etc, etc... That was all just a warm up; just a start.

Their public self-immolation has just begun.

The Dems will run some polling data and find that fighting Minn will cost them more than they will gain and they will try to strike a deal. My guess is they will ask for "power-sharing" in return for dropping the lawsuits.

Damn Timesink, I forgot the most important part!

The ballot number is printed on the ballot stub only! The stub is torn off before the ballot goes in the box. They put the stub(no info on it) in a separate box. The ballot with no number on it anymore is then optically scanned and discarded, (some time after the election. The stubs are kept for fraud or whatever challeges.

There really is no privacy issue at all yet the rats made it into one.

You were right. I had a fatalistic calm, but happiness is much nicer. :-) I feel like I'm witnessing a miracle here, like in the bible when the people would turn back to God and He'd deliver them.

(I hope God forgives me for wanting SD for the miracle to be complete, though. I wasn't paying much attention to SD earlier, but someone had pinged me to a thread about their bishop calling for a response to Dashle for turning this election into a referendum on abortion.)

Yeah. One big dim battle on the horizon is the knock-down, drag-out between the pro and anti-Gore people. That won't be pretty. A lot of dims would like to ditch Gore ASAP, but I think Gore has the backing and position to muscle his way the nomination. If so right away you've got half the already dismayed dems further disappointed. (I'm going back to bed now.)

Didn't the MN Supreme Court already knock down one ginned-up RAT legal maneuver today? I don't think they're of the Florida School of just creating law out of thin air.
