Extortion (?) and Deception (?) in the campaigns of Cleland and Barnes in Georgia
Street Source (No web based source)/Email quote | 11/5/2002 | Topher

As members gathered for a rally for Roy Barnes and Max Cleland Saturday, a disturbing report was heard.

People involved in Drug Rehab programs were told they MUST, and I emphasize MUST, VOLUNTEER for the Barnes/Cleland re-election campaign or be forced out of the Drug Rehabilitation program that they are in.

This is truly sad that people would stoop to such lows as to FORCE people to VOLUNTEER against their wishes in a political campaign.

It is unclear where the pressure came to force these people to work for these campaigns -- city, county, or state officials or members of such campaigns or just members of the Democratic Party.

These people in the Drug Rehab program obviously are receiving benefits from Federal and State Tax Funded programs, and if this money is being used to FORCE people to work in campaigns, then it is obviously a sad commentary on our soceity today and criminal in nature.

At the same event on Saturday in Atlanta, several busloads of people from churches and their pastors attended. They noticed a Pro-Life prayer vigil going on next to the political rally -- it was by an abortion clinic (Surgi Center on Spring Street).

The prayer vigil was to mark the Catholic feast of All Souls day -- those people who have died. (Not to be confused with All Saints Day Feast the day before).

They were trying to pray for the souls of the unborn who died and prevent abortion from continuing and the tragic killing of unborn babies.

This prayer vigil was from 7AM to 7PM in across from the abortion clinic near Georgia Power facility (God's sense of humor).

When members of the churches who came for the campaign rally for Barnes/Cleland were confronted that these candidates supported abortion, they were shocked. They were STRONGLY against abortion because of their Christian beliefs. It was sad to hear of people being deceived and manipulated. But it is the responsibility of citizens to know the positions of their candidates.

Finally, I will put a quote from an email I recently of Ben Franklin in 1791 when a bitter time arose in the Constitutional Convention. I believe it is appropriate here. The writer of the email is D. James Kennedy, a religious pastor.

The except follows:

Please be in prayer for our nation. I do not say this lightly. Prayer is our first and most important civic duty. At every key turning point in our nation's history, prayer has played a vital role.

Consider the words of Ben Franklin during the Constitutional Convention in 1787, when parties were bitterly divided over how our Constitution should be constructed.

At age 81, Franklin rose from his chair and said:

...God governs in the affairs of men. And if a
sparrow cannot fall to the ground without
His notice, is it probable that an empire
can rise without His aid?

With some of things happening in this election, certainly, the bitterness of this election may rival the bitterness at that time in the Constitutional Convention.

I personally admire Ben Franklin both as a child and now for his work for this country.

May God please help us this election day and any corruption in politics.

The above article is based on sources and accounts of what took place Saturday, November 2, in Atlanta at the Campaign Headquaters of Max Cleland.

I am saddened by some things going on in this country.

Just as in Arkansas, some people may be hurt by the political manipulation going on.

This article is meant to show what some campaigns may be stooping to for this election.

I don't know how credible people in a Drug
Rehabilitation program as witnesses in a
criminal prosecution. Maybe that is why some
people think that they can coerce these people
into doing this.
