Delivering a Touch of Home

A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Snow Bunny

.

.

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.

.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

An older couple had a son, who was still living with his parents. The
parents were a little worried, as the son was still unable to decide
about his future career, so they decided to do a small test.

They took a ten-dollar bill, a Bible, and a bottle of whiskey, and
put them on the front hall table... then they hid, pretending they
were not at home.

The father's plan was: "If our son takes the money, he will be a
businessman, if he takes the bible, he will be a priest - but if
he takes the bottle of whiskey, I'm afraid our son will be a
drunkard."

So the parents hid in the nearby closet and waited nervously.

Peeping through the keyhole they saw their son arrive. The son saw
the note they had left. Then, he took the 10-dollar bill, looked
at it against the light, and slid it in his pocket.

After that, he took the Bible, flicked through it, and took it.

Finally he grabbed the bottle, opened it, and took an appreciative
whiff to be assured of the quality ... then he left for his room,
carrying all three items.

The father slapped his forehead, and said: "Darn, it's even worse
than I could ever have imagined... "

"What's this mean!?" his wife asked quizzically.

"I'm afraid our son's going to be a politician!"

Canteen Joke of the Day:

-------------- New PC Miltary Phonetic Alphabet ----------------

You may not be aware that a team of international academic authorities has been commissioned by the European Community and the United Nations to create a new phonetic alphabet free of patriarchal references (such as Papa), Words that indicate wealth (Hotel), or words that might otherwise be offensive to minorities (e.g., Zulu) or those of differing gender. (Romeo, for instance, connotes a sexually obsessed individual, possibly a harasser.)

Fortunately, I have been able to obtain an early copy of the final selections. Try any common communication, and you will realize that $238 million was well spent!

All US Miltary personnel are to implement these new designations immediately.

A - Affirmative
B - Bearing
C - Czar
D - Disregard
E - Emergency
F - Fire
G - Gnu
H - Hold
I - Iago
J - Jalepeno
K - Knew
L - Launch
M - Mnemonic
N - New
O - One
P - Ptomaine
Q - Question
R - Repeat
S - Say-again
T - Tsunami
U - Unsafe
V - Violation
W - Write
X - Xerox
Y - Ypres
Z - Zero

Mornin', folks ! We made it back to Texas. I'm at Dad's house right now. I'm using his computer, and I don't have any of my graphics and ping lists so my apologies to all. (Jeepers, his AOL vs my AT&T Broadband....I'm crawling again, lol!)

Dad is doing excellent considering the shape his car was in after his accident. It was totalled.

Here's a rundown of how his accident occurred, and his injuries:

He was driving east on I-70 about 100 miles east of Denver, Colorado when he hit some black ice. He lost control and the car veered to the media where he hit a "turnaround" area (where cars can turn around to change direction on the highway). The car hit on the passenger side and rolled probably twice and ended up on the opposing lane of traffic side just beyond the highway shoulder. It landed rightside up, and Dad was able to crawl out the drivers side window (none of the doors would open).

Dad is 71 years old and has a fractured #2 vertebrae in his neck and will wear a neck brace for 8 weeks. His left arm required skin graft surgery, and likely more surgery and P.T. The skin on his left arm was what the doctor called "degloved", meaning peeled off his arm and you could see muscle and tendons. But no major blood arteries or tendons were damaged, so he was very fortunate. He had a puncture in his left leg just above his outside ankle. It was minor, but required about 10 staples and is doing fine and has not bothered him in the least so far. He had a bump on his head from the impact and also appears to have pulled/overextended a muscle in his left shoulder blade. That injury (should blade) has caused him the most discomfort of all his injuries. The doctors have prescribed a muscle relaxer and pain medication to help with that. He's a very lucky man to have been able to literally walk away from this. When the ambulance got there, he had crawled out of the driver's window and walked around a bit. A stranger drove by and stopped. He had a cell phone and called the ambulance for him and put a clean towel around his bleeding arm. He stayed until the ambulance got there. Dad is working through his injuries very well. He's a tough old man, my Dad is. I hope when I'm his age, I'll do as well as he does. Holy cats, I'm only 23 years behind him, lol !

My apologies for ramblin' on here, etc. I'm still a bit worn out from the events of the last 10 days or so. I logged over 2000 miles in the round trip plus driving to the towing place to get Dad's stuff out of the car. When I get the film back from developing, I'll post the pics of the car I took that day.

I want to express my appreciation to all of you for the so nice comments regarding my Dad, the prayers, and everything. My very special thanks to FReeper HiJinx and LadyX. I cannot express in words my sincere appreciation to you both for making contact with my Dad at the hospital. My Dad was very impressed to receive your call, HiJinx and was so pleased and grateful to hear your kind words of concern for him. Likewise to you, LadyX for your ever so sweet e-mail to the hospital. We got your note the day after you sent it to him. What a small world we live in, huh? Talk about morale boosters! Thanks so much ! :O)

Oh, one more thing. The folks at Swedish Medical Center were so very very kind and caring to my Dad. It is my opinion that SMC is one of the very best hospitals that I have ever seen.

LadyX, your son that used to work at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado must be a very special and talented man. I know you are proud of him. I wish that he could have been there at the time my Dad was in the hospital so we could have met him.

Since I'm going to be with Dad for at least the next few days, I'll likely not be too active on FR. I'll be here until he can get around on his own. So ya'll bear with me until things get normal/semi-normal with us again, ok?

See ya'll later! :O)

Thank you for the tribute to Rhode Island, one of the 15 states I have not had the pleasure of visiting personally. The pix of the Bay brought back memories of my time in San Rafael CA and its beautiful Bay area.

GOOD MORNING military personnel, past and present, and your families. Thank you for your service and the protection you provide to our Country and our families. YOU ARE AWESOME.

I am off to do my "florist" thing in Columbia MO. (You know, I'm going to check on the "blooming idiots" across the street - AKA the peaceniks.)

OFF THE PRESS!

.

Some Muslim/Nazi loving Germans are at it again. (I know..not all Germans like either one,but some of them do) Anyways, it seems that Berliners are not happy with a street name being changed back to it's original name before the Nazi's took power. So? What name was it that offended them?? JEWISH STREET! Oh! The crime of it all. Here's one fine example of this stupidity: " The Jews have made us suffer enough.". (MoJo would like to remind those Germans that it was just this type of mentality that helped ensure your ass being kicked twice in World Wars.) It was sickening to watch it and it almost brought tears to MoJo's eyes to watch the Jewish Community in Germany try to make "peace" with these idiots. Memo To The German Jewish Community "MOVE OUT NOW!!!". Take your talent, expertise, and your money and get the hell out of there. The German economy doesn't deserve you. Also, I would like to send an invitation to leave Germany to SaMWolf's relatives. Come on over! The German economy doesn't deserve you either. (MoJo would invite you to live at my house, but my children aren't properly people trained yet)

Just to prove that I'm not picking only on Europeans...let's look at America's fine example of idiots. Straight to your living room comes the interview from Hell with Martin Sheen. (Ramon Estevez to those of us that realize he's of Spanish/Irish descent) Anyways, Ramon Estevez would like to "tell the American people the crimes that are being covered up by the Bush Administration". (Yawn) Anyways, he's upset that no one is talking about Enron, corporate scandals, and the homeless. (Hey! Ramon..when was the last time you invited the homeless to come shack up at your house?? You could send the girls to stay with your son, Charlie) So? Here we are in the middle of a war against terrorists and he wants to discuss the corruption of the Bush Administration. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Are we going to hear that somehow Jenna and Barbara did something that is being covered up as well, Honestly, these people wouldn't be out there espousing this crap if there weren't some dimwitted Americans listening and agreeing with them. Ramon Estevez: You are paid to play and pretend. Stick to it! You do a wonderful job playing a morally bankrupt Liberal on television. Just leave the rest of us alone!

John Muhammed is a dead man. Well, he's the sniper and he will soon be dead. Of course, we have Attorney General offices from Maryland, Washington DC, Louisiana, Washington, Alabama, and Virginia that are foaming at the mouth to execute this guy. I have no problem with this at all. What I do have a problem with is that they aren't working together. They just want their state to be the one to execute him. I would just like to point out that if you worked together, it would make for an easier case. Oh!! Then the federal government gets involved and they are all "unhappy" that they may not get to prosecute him. It doesn't really matter..does it? He's going to die anyways. It doesn't matter where they fry this idiot. Just do it and BE DONE WITH IT! Stop wasting time, energy, space on MoJo's television screen, and taxpayers money deciding to be the State that will execute him. He's pretty much a "dead man walking" as it is.

For you Arizona State and Arizona Cardinal's fans, you will recognize that this is Pat Tillman shown above. He's the NFL player that decided to enlist in Uncle Sam's army. There was much fanfare on the outside, but very little was spoken inside the Green Giant that is the Army Boot Camp system. (Well, that's MoJo's new nickname for their boot camp system..LOL) Instead of going through the Officer's program, Tillman stated that he wanted to "start at the bottom and work his way up". Tillman also refused to be a publicity issue for the Army. Which was good for those he was going through boot camp with and bad for the Army that wanted to take advantage of his being enlisted. Well, there's plenty of time to come for that. (MoJo thinks Uncle Sam's Army will think of some way to get his picture and face on television). Anyways, he just graduated from Boot Camp. Woohoo!! Congratulations to you, Spc. Tillman and to all the other brave men and women that graduated with you. What an honor to know that there are more men and women coming to UNLEASH A CAN OF WHOOP ASS ON TERRORIST!! Woohoo! (MoJo would enlist herself, but I'm so mentally warped and find people shouting at me to be rather amusing. Which would ensure that I would be on the radar screen of every drill sergeant imaginable.)

The pictures above are of Michael Crichton, author, and Ari Fleischer, President Bush's Press Secretary, and they are there for a reason. (Besides, MoJo's thinking they are both cute) Anyways, there was a recent study in an English journal that women don't particularly find men with glasses to be sexy. Well, after seeing some of the British male population..I can understand. (Bad MoJo Bad) Anyways, I just wanted to point out to any British females out there that these are two fine examples of what you are missing out on. (MoJo would like to point out that these men are off limits to anyone not from North America..find your own cuties in your country) So? MoJo is thinking that British women are seeing too many men like Austin Powers in their neck of the woods and not enough of our two cuties. So?? Here's to hoping you find one out there.

\

The "JACKASS"AWARD goes today to those officials around the country trying to make sure every vote is counted. That's wonderful. Except it's the Democratic Party and they are trying to keep the military vote out. If there is anything more disrespectful than insulting your mama, it's not allowing the military votes to be counted. (MoJo thinks these shrills should be locked in a box and dropped off to sink in the bottom of the ocean.) It is absolutely appalling that they would try to silence our beloved military persons trying to defend them and our country. MoJo's grandmother stated that there are four honorable things to be in this country: "mother, father, serving God, or serving America". So? These idiots would have to feel the wrath of MoJo's granny. She doesn't like anyone disrespecting our troops. ( Whispering..either does Snow Bunny, but I don't want her to get riled and unleash Atilla the Bun) So? Here's to all you knucklehead officials trying to silence our military. KISS OUR ASS!! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Oh! And you get the award for today.

The Canteen Girlz and Pamela Anderson salute all of our troops!! God Bless each and every one of you!!! Can you say " YEAH BABY!!"

Thank you for enduring the babbling of MoJo
at the Useless Tidbits Corner

Thank You
and
G-d Bless Our Troops
