ACLU of Texas (Whines to editor of Express-News)
San Antonio Express-News | 1 Nov 2002 | William Harrell

Text of letter follows:

The district attorney's charge is to carry out her law enforcement function faithfully, without political bias.

But Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed's timing and the selectiveness of her assault on South Side politicos carries the stench of a politically motivated abouse of authority, and on one is asking questions.

I have reviewed the indictments and cannot get beyond my initial reaction that this is a Chicago-style, illegitimate, party-boss-generated law-enforcement technique.

The complaint identifies some serious--if proven--misdeeds. But all are from 1998, 1999, 2000. One is from 2002, but is minor. If Reed's genuine interest is going after the "scum", why didn't she do it sooner? If their actions were so "brazen", what took so long? Why didn't she nip it in the bud four years ago? Why did Reed wait until the eve of the 2002 elections?

Could there be more in this for Reed, a Republican whose aspiration for a judicial appointment is well-known? It would behoove the Republican Party to demoralize the Hispanci vote. Without that, there is no chance to elect Tony Sanchez the first Hisponic governor. A few less Hispanci votes might keep a Texas Democrat out of Washington.

These are werious questions that must be asked. A successful, well-timed obstruction that accomplished all this would not escape Karl Rove and his boys in Washington.

Here's a letter to the Editor of the San Antonio Express-News. Just goes to further prove the ACLU are just another mouthpiece for the DemoRATS!

spoken like a true commie dimocRAT. what an ass.

ya know, I'd give my right eye to know some actual statistics on the membership's political affiliation. I know the answer as sure as the sun will rise but it would be terrific to have that statistic.

I have reviewed the indictments and cannot get beyond my initial reaction that this is a Chicago-style, illegitimate, party-boss-generated law-enforcement technique.

The city council members are charged with Chicago-style crimes...conspiracy to commit bribery, bid rigging, money laundering, tampering with governmental records and aggravated perjury, engaging in organized crime and bribery among others... and I don't think the Texas Rangers are beholden to party bosses. I am totally shocked that indictments have not come down over the PGA deal yet...I guarantee you there were some kickbacks on that deal from the way it was forced down SA voters throats.

Why didn't she nip it in the bud four years ago? Why did Reed wait until the eve of the 2002 elections?

Probably because she did not know about it until last November and it takes awhile to investigate without tipping off the perps...duh...if this idiot read the newspaper or watched the news, he would know that...

"Reed said her investigation, in cooperation with Texas Rangers, began in November when she received a tip from a friend at City Hall."

Me thinks the ACLU are afraid some more of their bosom buddies might be caught up in the dragnet. Having lived in San Antonio periodically since 1972 and continously since 1984, I believe this is only the tip of a very large iceburg.
