Interesting. I only hope it appears that way to the swing voters.
Lautenberg has 45% of the vote no matter what. He could pull a mask off his face and reveal himself as a space alien. He'd still get 45% with that (D) next to his name. The swing voter Sucker Mom will decide this. Now they might vote for Lautenberg because they feel sorry for him.

I'm cable deprived, but laughing my ass off here in Virginia reading these comments - - it must have been a priceless debate! My clueless hubby asks why I care about a race in New Jersey.....boy he got an earful!
Fortunately our RINO, John Warner has no one running against him. He's a RINO, our RINO - - but the military has no better friend than John......

Forrester's closing comments (paraphrased):
"I want to thank President Bush, Rudy Guiliani, John McCain and others for supporting me. And I want to thank Mr. Lautenberg for showing up."

Forrester SMOKED Lautenberg.
Absolutely no contest.
Lautenberg looked like they pulled him out of the back of a dusty old closet. He fumbled and stumbled and looked completely lost.
Forrester in his appearance, and speaking style, reminded me a lot of Rush Limbaugh. He had command of all the issues and his delivery was direct and confident.

Forrester signed up for the draft but was never picked. Makes you wonder though -- Does the Lout think that the 60% of current Senators are unsuitable for the Senate because they never served in the military?
I was all ready for Laut to say, "Mr. Forrester, I served with Abraham Lincoln, I knew Abraham Lincoln. And Mr. Forrester -- you are no Abraham Lincoln."
To: Yankee
I'll ditto that. From what I saw the Lout looked lost.

Hopefully, the media will give the debate some attention. Forrester looked very good. Lautenberg was quite shaky and unnerved.

Anyone want to make a wager on how soon Lautenberg drops out of the race so the Democrats can substitute yet
another candidate?
Somewhere, the party bosses are wondering what they have done to themselves, and are probably trying to figure out a recovery plan. Easing out Lautenberg will probably be at the top of their list.
Another alternative, albeit dubious: Lautenberg publicly declares that he will resign after the election so that the governor can appoint a Democrat for the next two years. Their new campaign slogan: "anything but a nasty Republican".

I assure you that anyone who saw it would come away thinking that.
The problem is going to be how many people will see it. Rarely will nightly newscasts show enough of the answers to give a real feel for the performances. So if a lot of people did not tune in, it will be tough. If Stern and/or Imus play clips it will help. Same with Rush.
PJ-Comix has been saying that Forrester needs to call in to Stern. I tend to think he is right, or somehow get on Letterman or Leno or both.

Laut got pummeled. He looked like the old man that would steal my baseball and yell at me if it accidentaly went on his lawn back in 1974....
"I know you...I know what your all about! Get off my lawn!"

" L is slurring his words and he looks drunk."
That's exactly how he looked-wonder if he takes medication. Tonight was a disaster for the Laut-he was awful-he made no sense, rambled on, it was actually worse than I had expected.Forrester was statesmanlike and gracious-in his closing remarks he thanked a lot of people and gave reasons why people should vote for him. The Laut used his closing to smear Forrester and then tried a swipe at Forrester for not serving in the military. The Laut tried to pass himself off as Sgt York, fighting in the Ardennes Forest, during WWI- finger pointing, hand shaking, " At least I wore the uniform", was his non sequiter. The Laut had the best line of the night and it was the last one of his closing statement. He said and I am not making this up- " We are two different people and I hope the voters of New Jersey realize that! " Guess Frank thought he had a Siamese twin.

Most of New Jersey is embarassed by the Laut.

Just watching the Forrester/Lautenberg Debate...
...jeez, Forrester reminds me of Archie Bunker. Don't quite know why.
Anyway, I personally think Lautenberg did a great job even though Forrester talks as smoothly as though he had a "play" button. The best part would have to be when Forrester tried to interrupt, and Lautenberg said, "That's a good strategy, if you can't beat them right-on, you just cut into their time."

Liberterian lady answering question on gun control. She was stellar in front of SCONJ, as well. What a shame that she doesn't have a snowball's chance.
