Talk about rank capitalism. DemocRATS will cash in on death, and have the evil to blame Republicans for the very crime they commit.
Wellstone's evil spirit was heavy in that auditorium tonight, packaged and manipulated into a eulogy

I'm asking around tonight. I just finished watching the memorial service (political rally) without interruption, not distracted with posting at FR. I'm a bit confused. Was Paul Wellstone the type of man who would have endorsed a memorial service to honor the tragically dead turned into a political rally for the thinly veiled purpose of energizing the flagging political fortunes of a particular party? I really don't know, so I'm asking that any freepers familiar with the man's character please tell me. Was Paul Wellstone that transparent?... From what I am familiar with, from a distance over fundamental ideological differences on abortion, I would say the man was more genuine than what I saw and heard from the likes of Tom Harkin and Kahn(sp?). Am I wrong? Was Paul Wellstone one to exploit grief and sympathy ... or was Paul Wellstone actually better than those crass political manipulators I watch tonight? I had little politically that I would have agreed with Wellstone over, but I thought he had more character than what I watched tonight.

There was lots to dislike about Wellstone, but I do feel he would have been disgusted by that display last night. I'm really hoping that the people of Minnesota backlash against that profiteering last night, but honestly, no offense to MN Freepers, it's never seemed like the average Minnesotan is very bright - maybe the cold freezes their brains up.

I find it ironic that so many Republicans talked about how Wellstone was never a "mean" democrat, how you always knew where you stood with him. They praised how loyal he was to his own convictions not to his party. The words fair, honest, straightforward etc were said over and over again. Makes you wonder how he would feel knowing the dems put on a carnival for his memorial service where they even booed Republicans.

It's fitting that the impeached rapist and his wife attended this sickening spectacle. The RAT party stands united as one in favor of CORRUPTION AND EVIL.
Don't be surprised if you see Paul Wellstone's remains up for auction on ebay soon to raise money for the democratic national committee. At this point, I wouldn't put anything past them.
I fully expected that socialist crowd to break into a chant, "WE GOT SPIRIT! Yes we do. WE GOT SPIRIT! HOW 'BOUT YOU?
WE GOT A DEAD GUY! Yes we do! WE GOT A DEAD GUY! HOW 'BOUT YOU?"

As far as genuine, yes Wellstone was a genuine Communist pig...complete with lying, manipulating, cheating, slandering and scaring.
Don't forget, besides his overt Communist platform, Wellstone violated his 'Oath of Impartial Justice' in Clinton's Impeachment, as well as perpetuated the lie of Bush trying to steal the election, and "Republican's are racists" scare tactic.
I could go on, but I wouldn't want to capitalize on his death or anything (/sarcasm).

What sets me off is that Republicans just take the blame, while DemocRATS capitalize on Wellstone's body before it even went cold (literally). This is the cowardice of the Republican party that sets us back, and back, and back.
Democrats beat us over the head with lies, yet when we have the truth that damns, incontrovertibly, DemocRATS dark and evil wickedness, we just roll over and take it proverbially.

I watched parts of it on C-SPAN and both my husband and I thought it was very wierd. He was even a bit angry over it. The peoples' faces were beaming; it was like a big rally/party/Democratic Convention. I feel so, so sorry for that Wellstone guy because it doesn't look like he had too many true friends in his circle.

I watched Wellstone's SON rally the troops with his very political speech- it was truly disgusting. Listen, people, these democrats are playing a different game than I see the republicans playing. Nothing means nothing to these people! They will gut anyone in their way. If they can't win an election, they WILL steal it. I haven't seen one republican who can go toe-to-toe with those bastards.
Be prepared; it's gonna get ugly from here on!

I am only somewhat amazed that the DFL didn't bring a blanket so they could toss Welstone's body in the air to the cheers of the crowd.
Next time something like this happens they will be sure to do so - unless it's Teddy, of course! No blanket big enough, eh?!

Well, I definitely agree there's way too much cowardice in the GOP today. There are a whole lot of career politicians who want to hold on to their jobs more than they want to go out on a limb and show some leadership.
If the Republicans had any guts, they'd immediately schedule FIVE DEBATES in FIVE DAYS, as Coleman originally proposed the other day. If Coleman has to debate an empty chair in Duluth, so be it.
The demwits accused Coleman of not respecting Wellstone's family when he proposed the debates with Mondale. Well, after last night's Plane Crash Jamboree, I think the Minnesota voters can see very clearly which party is playing politics with Wellstone's death. (I'm sure some in the MTV generation were a little disappointed last night that their Boxers-or-Brief idol didn't play the sax - in tribute to Paul, of course.)

Wellstone would not have been bothered in the least by this sort of stuff. In his first foray into Washington DC he took an entourage of media flaks down to our Memorial on the Mall specifically for the purpose of desacrating it!
The sooner the good people of Minnesota come to their senses and take back their government from the clowns, criminals and curmudgeons, the better off the whole nation will be.

Simply excise the word "like" from your sentence...and you'll accurately describe the situation.

You're being far too kind in your description of Mondull.
I think Coleman should just run ads of this caption in white letters on black background:
"Guess you couldn't resist the chance to raise our taxes...like you promised in 1984"

This article popped up on my browser, and I immediately came to FR to see what everyone was saying. I couldn't believe that something this crass could actually take place at a memorial service.
May God save their souls.

That's because Republicans play by different rules than Demos. Demos lie, cheat, break laws, and steal, and their electorate never holds them responsible because, no matter what they say, they have an immoral constituancy. Sometimes they do (Condit- and the media had to pound relentlessly on him) but usually not (Mayor Berry, Clinton).
The blacks are reflexive voters who only care if a D comes after your name. The immoral ones don't care and the moral ones are conditioned to forgive anyone who asks forgiveness by their churches, without considering whether you can trust their words or not. - "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone, brother --Amen". But Jesus never meant those words to apply to politics.
Meanwhile, when a white Republican sins, out he goes. Remember Livingston, Gingrich, and perhaps Hutchinson of Arkansas very soon? Republicans hold their politicians morally accountable. And if they stop doing that, they will have lost their souls. And you can't make Democrats moral people if they are not, so they will vote for a crud 20 times over as long as he promises them the world - look at Grey Davis.
I think Bush had the best answer when he tried to open the eyes of black churches through his faith based programs. And from what I hear he is making some inroads. But it won't be easy - everytime a black thinks of voting Repub, he is called an Uncle Tom by the likes of Belafonte, Jackson, and Sharpton.
