Seems unlikely that FedEx itself was the intended target. More likely a package bomb intended for someone else?

The very first pictures they showed did not show the cab just all of the debris, it looked like that's all there was.

FoxNews. 2 in cab at time of explosion. Both apparently unhurt. No ambulance on scene. Bomb squad not appearent either.
I-270/Bellefontaine Exit area North bound.
Both trailers destroyed, cab appears intact. Fires appear to be in package/contents areas, not in/around cab area.

Well now that both drivers are okay can I remark that I sure hope this doesn't take attention away from the televised rally,,oops,,how insensitive of me,,the Memorial Service for Wellstone tonite!!! I mean it would be so wrong of the news to focus on this when there is a ral,,oops,,,,a service to cover.

You left off "ex-military."

MSNBC says truck was hit by car. My question: Was that before or after the explosion/fire? And were the drivers wearing turbans?
To: js1138
Actually, as a FedEx employee I know that FedEx does carry hazardous materials. As you said, they do have to be declared. But if someone lies, there really isn't any way to know.
To: Pravious
I think they are just now confirming that both drivers are OK, no injuries.
My brother drives for Fed Ex. I don't like the jokes, either.

Recent times are really starting to feel like the end of civilization - certainly civilization as we've known it.

More likely a package bomb intended for someone else? Could be. Could also be that this was not a bomb at all, but rather someone sent hazmats without the proper declarations.

How long before we hear from Jean Carnahan, trying to exploit this for political purposes? Hmmmmm. Was she losing the in senate polls like Toricelli and Welstone? Maybe the package was ,you know, for her. The return address was "Arkansaside, Arkansas." :-P

It means Al Quida (or similar pukes) realize the way to really hurt an open society like ours is to paralyze even the most mundane avenue of commerce. And just as the holiday seasons get rolling. They're trying with the dock strike.

(Bill Hess-Herald/Review) By BILL HESS Herald/Review HEREFORD -- An attempt to smuggle illegal immigrants into the United States in what appeared to be a U.S. Postal Service vehicle was foiled Monday by a U.S. Customs Service agent. About 1:30 p.m. near Andalusian Way and Highway 92, the Customs Service agent spotted the vehicle that had all the markings of a postal service truck. However, thinking something was suspicious, the agent followed the truck. When the vehicle stopped... |

I posted this story as a response to a Mexican smuggling thread a few weeks back and, heeding "stay alert" advice I was hearing earlier, I decided to post this because this practice could have more serious consequences than just dope smuggling. FReeper business owners with fleets LISTEN UP! Yet another tactic affected an acquaintance of mine recently. This guy owns a small company with a fleet of trucks of various sizes. The entire fleet has the company name & logo on the doors. The company does a lot of business along the Mexican border and occasionally pass back and... |

The trailer(s) are mangled, twisted steel -- looks like an explosion in about the center of the first trailer (if there were two trailers, there's some confusion on that) -- the rear of the trailer (or the second trailer) appears to have been blown a couple of hundred yards to the rear of the cab, and is almost unrecognizable. Packages and enveopes strewn all over the highway; trailers still smoldering. The cab looks untouched, and it doesn't look like any truck fuel was involved.

"I bet the Feds are going over the manifest list of every sender and addressee of packages on that truck." Would they have that....I mean what was on what trucks?
To: TrappedInLiberalHell
P.S. You'd have a hard time getting diesel fuel to explode and since most trucks run on diesel I'd have to say probably not.
