Kathleen Weinstein is a paraplegic in a wheelchair who worked as a poll worker in Tamarac -- until Miriam Oliphant was elected.
Elections Supervisor Oliphant moved Weinstein out of Precinct 15J, where she had spent 15 years helping voters. It broke Weinstein's heart. Confined to a wheelchair since she was stricken with polio at age 5, she loved working at the polls.
"They told me that Mrs. Oliphant's mother had requested to work in that precinct, so I couldn't any longer," says Weinstein, 62.
Sure enough, Oliphant's mother, Hattie McKinzie, was assigned to the Mainlands 1 & 2 Clubhouse, earning $135 for the day.

This is beyond incompetence, beyond corruption. This is sheer arrogance of entitlement. The broward commission allowed this? Who is in charge now that Oliphant signed the consent agreement?
The broward supervisor of election website is:

and the page with the email link is:

This is must not stand.

Went to the second link. When I saw her picture on the bio page I realized this is the same person that overspent on her budget big time! It made national news last month. Why am I not surprised that she would act like this. Looks like she stepped in it again.

In most states it is illegal for any relative of the election supervisor to be hired! But, it is done all the time. Here in TN we have one that hires her brother to work all of early voting and election day and has for years. When you ask about it...the excuse is election workers are hard to come by!
At leats this one didn't make an excuse...she just gave the job to her mother and said so!

That is where political crooks start, at the precinct Level. Firing an old cripple woman so you can put kin in her place is a good Clinton start.

Now the corruption and BLAME can go to the Broward County commission. THEY wanted responsibility and they got it.
Does anyone know how to ad this article to the florida election ping list?
This is a fox news visual picture dream. Democrat party machine crushes little old lady in wheelchair.
To: D. Miles
We can't find anyone to work the polls after the old timer's left. They were prompt, dedicated and liked the job. Now we beg people to please come out for the day. It is a hassle we have had for the past several years.

I'll say it
again:
Miriam Oliphant needs to be hauled in for a brutal interrogation before November 5.

Now the corruption and BLAME can go to the Broward County commission. THEY wanted responsibility and they got it. You are so right. Thank you for the post. We need to know that the 18 hard drives from those 18 missing voting machines are never included in the count on election day, as well.
Thanks for the ping, Joe. I'll ping my list, too - though this headline could inspire Florida lurkers to join us.
Please let me know if you want on or off my "'til election day" Fla. ping list.
To: Joe Brower
Thanks for the ping, Joe. Not surprising.

Miriam and her organized mischief-makers may have done this with the express purpose of forcing Jeb to act, so they could once again cry "racism." It's time for us to cry, "slander", "extortion", "fraud"...but after the election, I think. Even Broward County voters - 2 to 1 Dems. - know Ms. Oliphant's corrupt and any serious irregularities in Broward on election day are going to send her behind to jail, imho.
I posted this after the primary...one the of the usual suspects in Broward dirty politics threatened Jeb:
Check out these comments from Alcee Hastings in the SP Times last June:
Conventional wisdom has Janet Reno sweeping the black vote, but two of Florida's three black members of Congress, all Democrats, are not hopping on the Reno bandwagon.
"Janet Reno can't win," said U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings of Broward County, a Reno stronghold. "I told her that if she hadn't seen Waco burning enough, Bill Clinton kissing Monica enough, and Elian being snatched enough, then she should run for governor." He favors Bill McBride.
Link
The Sun Sentinel adds this after the election:
U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, said nothing Oliphant is accused of rises to the level of misdeeds he thinks were committed by former Secretary of State Katherine Harris in the 2000 election. He said Bush would face the wrath of black voters in the November election if he removes Oliphant.
"I dare the governor to remove her," Hastings said. "He'll create a firestorm that will eclipse the one he created in the One Florida plan. He'll need Katherine Harris to count the votes for him again."
________
Instead of firing Ms. Oliphant after the primary, Jeb, as you know O.K.ed Broward's solution...to assemble a "commission" to 'oversee' the election....Ms. Oliphant is happy, claiming she chose the members. Guess who's in charge? One of Alcee Hasting's top aids.
Coincidence?
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
Thanks for the ping RC. Didn't Oliphant finally step down from her post?
And look what she was up to before her job as elections supervisor....
Broward School Board evicts 60 Boy Scout, Cub Scout troops over anti-gay policy
The meeting was the last full session for Diana Wasserman-Rubin and Miriam Oliphant, the board's minority members. Wasserman is leaving after 12 years to serve as a county commissioner; Oliphant ends an eight-year tenure to become county election supervisor.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl; PhiKapMom
Thanks for the ping. Broward is going to mess up again I'm afraid. Hope they do DNA fingerprinting on all the absentee ballots when McBride orders an EXPENSIVE recount in the entire state.

FYi: Nothing from the McBride emails. I guess they are only emailing people where he is at the exact moment. Maybe volunteers are dropping like flies.
Or, they realized too little too late that their emails were "a little too informative" proving beyond a doubt that McBride's running a poor campaign.
I thought it was really stupid when they emailed "us" their talking points from the first debate. They're posted on the "Live" debate thread for the first debate on my profile page. NOW THAT WAS REALLY STUPID.

You might lobby for passage of a law simular to one of TN's new ones. We now allow 17 yr olds to work in the polls, although they can't vote. We are a small county and so far only have one worker. He is interested, polite to those that come in to vote and he tries his best to do a good job!
This gives young people a chance to earn some money for the day, but most important it wets their interest in perserving the right to vote! Hopefully it also shows them the importance of the vote and that we NEED young interested poll workers!

The problem with this story beyond the obvious nepotism, is the fact that this white wheelchair bound woman was booted for self interest. Arguable this is small potatos BUT if this is what is going on after the Supervisor agrees to be supervised, (see an above post for some good insider info about the supervisor's supervisors.) imagine the other games that are going on. (what did happen to those 18 new voting machines?)
Lets be clear, the NAACP pressure the Broward Democrats and governor's office to keep oliphant based on skin color. The would only accept replacements if they had the same skin color. Now an old white lady looses her post of 15 years. If the races were reversed the race baiters would be out faster than the concord. This is hypocracy, indiference, and arrogance. I am willing to bet that Oliphant's mother is not the only time this has happened.
Judging by the poll workers age, is she in a primarily elderly district? Jewish? Retired New York? Democrat? Republican?
It makes sense if you think about it. In a heavy democrate precinct, eliminate or thin out republican votes. There is no paper trail...
I hope the feds have poll watchers.
To: BigWaveBetty
She's something! Even the Dems. in Broward voted to fire her in a Sun-Sentinel poll after the primaries.
We thought that she was removed from her job, but we (I) was wrong. (^: She kept her title (and her paycheck)- as well as advisory role - but a hastily assembled "committee" is acting as SOE for Broward County. It smells...big time.
Do a "Broward" and "Oliphant" FR search. "Queen" Oliphant is more concerned with winning, than any appearances of impropriety....and there's still a matter of the missing state election $$$$...and those 18 Broward voting machines.
To: longtermmemmory
In most states each canidate is allowed poll watcher...but, they hardly ever use them. Each party is also entitled to poll watchers, if Republicans use them(speaking from experience) then dems are shocked that you would feel the need for this. I've heard election supervisors say they think poll watchers should be done away with, especially in counting rooms. Oh did I mention that this was a dem speaking?????
Ithink the feds have volunteered to supervise or watch this upcoming election and Jeb has happily agreed to have them there! Hopefully this will not turn into another circus. No wonder so many people feel they shouldn't bother to vote. Shame on us Conservative Americans...we should be all over this sort of thing!!!!
