Civil Rights Chief Warns White House of Al Qaeda-U.S. Muslim Threat

The head of one of the nation's most prominent civil rights organizations has warned the White House that the rise of radical Islam within America's black community could provide a breeding ground for the perpetrators of the next wave of terror attacks against the U.S.

In a letter sent to the Bush administration on Friday, Congress of Racial Equality Chairman Roy Innis requested a meeting with Homeland Security Czar Tom Ridge, Attorney General John Ashcroft and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to discuss what he sees as the "clear and present danger" posed to U.S. race relations by the rising tide of "non-spiritual" Muslim conversions.

Innis fears that the trend has left too many sympathetic to al Qaeda and its anti-American agenda, providing a waiting pool of potential terrorist recruits.

"Even before the Beltway sniper attacks," Innis told NewsMax in an exclusive interview, "I anticipated a real problem for our country and for black Americans in particular. And that is, the large number of non-spiritually-based conversions to Islam - both inside and outside of jail."

"It's not going to take long for al Qaeda to begin capitalizing on this, if they haven't already," the CORE chief warned

"Osama bin Laden was able to sneak nineteen guys into the country with visas and attack the country on Sept. 11. That won't be so easy to do anymore," Innis noted.

"But the guys coming out of jail, the recent converts , the angry guys floating around the country who are looking for a framework to express their hostility - they don't need visas."

The longtime civil right leader fears that if the next terrorist attack has black fingerprints on it, it could destroy decades worth of progress in American race relations.

"Al Qaeda is going to figure this out soon enough and start using it - and there goes all the years of civil rights improvement in America. All the revolutionary gains of Dr. Martin Luther King, of CORE and the NAACP and the others could be washed away overnight if the phenomenon continues unchecked."

Innis pointed to the recent arrest of six al Qaeda suspects in Oregon, noting, "Already we see this trend being played out.... Three of them were black Muslims."

The fact that Beltway sniper John Muhammed was a Muslim convert as well who was sympathetic to the Sept. 11 attacks only heighten his concern, the CORE chief told NewsMax.

He also zeroed in on Nation of Islam chief Louis Farrakhan, who Innis said needs to clean house of people like Mr. Muhammed, who worked as a security guard for the NOL's 1995 Million Man March.

"He needs to clean his own house and examine his own house to make sure that he doesn't have sociopaths and psychopaths and haters of other sorts and al Qaeda adherents floating into his organization."

He called on Farrakhan to "weed out his non-spiritually based followers" and to take care that "his rhetoric doesn't give aid and comfort and nurture" al Qaeda sympathizers.

Innis stressed that he is not questioning anybody's genuinely held religious beliefs.

"I'm not challenging a person's right to change from Catholic to Protestant, from Christian to Muslim to Jewish - I'm not challenging that," he told NewsMax. "But I am challenging whether these are in fact spiritually based conversions - or are they just convenient vehicles to express hostilities and sociopathic behavior."

He noted that "it's stranger than usual, the large amount of young black men who go to jail and come out as Muslims," adding, "I don't believe for one moment that they go to jail and then have an epiphany like Paul on the road to Damascus."

Prisoners become Muslims, he said, "Because it is safer to become Muslim in jail. They're able to join the gang."

But beyond protection from physical violence, converting to Islam gives alienated prisoners something else, Innis contended. "They're able to express their hostility using a religious cover. They're able to express their anti-Americanism in a religious framework."

The pressure to convert can be overwhelming, Innis contended, noting that, "Even a fierce and ferocious boxing champion like Mike Tyson goes to jail and becomes a Muslim."

The civil rights leader said the first item he'd like to discuss with Attorney General Ashcroft is the potential national security threat posed by al Qaeda sympathizers who will one day be released from prison.

Noting that both confessed al Qaeda shoe-bomber Richard Reid and dirty-bomb suspect Jose Padilla were a jailhouse converts to Islam, the CORE chief urged, "That's the prime target to deal with right now. Do something about those prisons."

Innis said it's imperative that the Bush administration send the message to youthful al Qaeda prospects now in jail: "You don't have to become a Muslim to survive in prison. The government will protect you."

He also wants to win the Bush administration's support for prison-based instruction on the history of the relationship between blacks and Islam, which, he noted, began with the slave trade.

"When these prisoners give up their Christian 'slave name' for a Muslim pre-Christian 'slave name' - if they knew the history, they wouldn't be so inclined," he observed.

Give Moose some credit here for doing his job well. He wasn't out playing face time with the media, a la Leftists, but solving a real crime. Very much unlike the "white boy" profiles, which if you return to a post I made and a question I asked, "Why do you think this information isn't being commented on?" or something to that effect. I wouldn't be surprised if he knew "what" he was looking for all along. We know he asked the media not to release information they already had. Hopefully this, like so much of what Bush has most likely done, will remain as much of a secret as possible.

Check out Steve Emerson's book, American Jihad: The Terrorists Among Us - BTW, has anyone seen him recently? He used to be NBC's expert on terrorism, but I haven't seen him on the airways for some time now. I know there is a price out on his head, hope nobody collected.

This country needs more real leaders like Mr Innis, and that should include his son, too. Instead the weak-minded follow Jesse Jackson and Farrakhan, who lead them into true misery.

Well Mr. Innis seems to be the best of the lot. But I think we need less so-called leaders and more people able to think for themselves. Does anyone remember when we didn't have so many leaders? I do. What has happened that we must 'follow' someone. We seem to follow our politicians as if they have the wisdom of the ages. Every organization and group has to have its leaders. I still don't have a leader, but do you remember when everyone did not have to be lead? We seemed to be able to work, make a living, decide our religion, live our lives, vote and not have to be lead?

I do agree with you post, this isn't meant to be argumentative.

Uhmmm .. Moose is out there in the press seeking acclaim, yet:
"We were looking for a white van with white people, and we ended up with a blue car with black people," said Washington, D.C., Police Chief Charles Ramsey, whose department ran the Caprice's license Oct. 3, just hours before a fatal shooting in Washington that has been tied to the sniper suspects, John Allen Muhammad, 41, and John Lee Malvo, 17.

There is a definite stink of PC group-think to how this was handled.

Agreed; but he does have a following, mainly the easily-led, which still constitues a crowd. I read Farrakhan was to have a press conference at 4PM ET; FNC isn't carrying, but I'm sure curious what he has to say. QuannelX and the other Muslim (smart-mouthed character) spokesman have told of how Catholics and other Christians have displayed the same behavior.

On another thread, someone commented an analyst believes Muhammad was "auditioning" for a domestic terror group. He was surely up to something, and I'm more and more curious where he was getting his money.

He's right. If most black people knew enough history to know how they had been treated under Islam, they'd be horrified.

If most people of any color knew that Islam has been violent and agressive and destructive since the day of its birth, they'd also be horrified. Islam was the terror of the Mediterranean and Europe for centuries.

Study history, folks.

Generally agree with you, with this exception. Many black people have been so indoctrinated by these hateful and hate-filled so-called leaders, they need more honest people like Mr Innis, who can get them on the road to a good life; undo the damage that has already been done.

You may remember the high school principal (either MD or VA) who had managed to convince students to use Norplant, to avoid ruining their lives by having babies they couldn't care for, and preventing them from making something of their own lives. This woman was nearly ran on out on a rail by a minister, who accused her of trying to destroy the race, saying one third of the men are killed, another third are in prison, leaving one third to keep the race going. So much for this kind of "leader".

That's exactly right. The Mullahs have discovered that they can create an army out of some of our biggest and baddest criminals and our own social misfits. They are being recruited right under our noses to fight against us within our own borders.

Mr Innis forgot the actual name of the Nation of Islam's terrorist farm league team, al Fuqra.

Few if any of the Black American wanna be terrorists will even be considered for membership by al Qaeda. The real al Qaeda leaders are the elitist brain power behind the Islamofascists who recruit the nearly brain dead to become al fuqra, hamas or whatever suicidial organizations the new islamakazis join around the world.

We will find few if any American born al Qaedas. However, if and when America starts to really look at home grown traitors, they will find a lot of al Fuqras. There is basically no difference between the al Fuqras in America and the Nation of Islam.
