Arts & Letters Daily to Resume Publication After Purchase by The Chronicle The Web site Arts & Letters Daily returns today, following its purchase by The Chronicle.

The site gained an international following for its pithy summaries of, and links to, much of the Web's best writing on ideas, the arts, criticism, and a wide variety of other topics. It suspended publication after the bankruptcy of its parent company.

Arts & Letters Daily will resume under the editorship of its founder, Denis Dutton, a professor of philosophy at the University of Canterbury, in Christchurch, New Zealand.

"I couldn't imagine a better outcome for the readers of Arts & Letters Daily," Mr. Dutton said. "The Chronicle of Higher Education is the premier source for news and information for universities worldwide. Both technically and editorially, it offers immense resources. A bright future for Arts & Letters Daily is now assured."

"Readers around the world have grown to love Arts & Letters Daily, and we are delighted to be able to bring it back," said Corbin Gwaltney, The Chronicle's chairman. "The Chronicle has always been committed to the journalism of ideas, and we see Arts & Letters Daily as a perfect extension of what we do."

The Chronicle acquired Arts & Letters Daily on Thursday, along with the assets of its parent company, which published the magazine Lingua Franca. The sale is expected to close in the next few days

One of the best sites outside of FR for commentary. It went bankrupt, and was taken off line. It is now back on line with a new web address. Hallelujah.

Of course, many are liberal, but you get all sorts of essays.

Great stuff! I had bookmarked the other two sites that he maintained, but they couldn't compare.The depth of his coverage was unbeatable, and was mostly right leaning.

I was pleased to see the top story in "Articles of Note" was about the resignation of the liar Bellesiles from Emory. Take the small victories as they come!

Being moderately liberal, I would say the opposite:
Hallelujah--Arts & Letters it the best site for commentary, outside of FR. Of course, FR is conservative, but you get all the news anyway.
