The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

.
.
If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Toad Suck Daze
Long ago, steamboats traveled the
Arkansas River when the water was
at the right depth. When it wasn't, the
captains and their crew tied up to wait
where the Toad Suck Lock and Dam now
spans the river.
While they waited, they refreshed themselves
at the local tavern there, to the dismay of the
folks living nearby, who said: "They suck on
the bottle 'til they swell up like toads." Hence,
the name Toad Suck. The tavern is long gone,
but the legend and fun live on at Toad Suck Daze.

Now, if only we could figure out a way to put a sexy dress and burgundy-red hair on that thing...LOL
To: radu
Lookin' good there! Cut and paste?
To: GooberDoll; 4TheFlag
So good to see you, GooberDoll. Would you mind giving this to Flagman for me? ((HUG)) Thanks. Great job at FD.
To: MoJo2001; leadpenny
I'm so glad that you thought of playing some Patsy Cline last evening. How thoughtful of you to think of your old Ma.

These aren't my kitties but this isn't to awfully different from what I deal with. This isn't nearly as many as I have to fight off as I visit the Canteen. Just picture me in the chair with that kitty in my lap, and that's this precise moment. LOL!!

Me thinks you've got this posting thing down pat. Hurrah for you! Fun, isn't it? LOL!

She's doing great, isn't she? I love it! Canteening is most fun in color. : )
Thanks for the laughs, Night Shift. I will see you all tomorrow!
(Lord, please keep those who protect us safe from harm tonight, and always.)

God bless you good for being here to support our troops. Good night and sleep well.
You are sure right, Canteening is most fun in color. I'm not too far behind you. DON'T FORGET YOUR CLOCKS!
To: DaughterOfAnIwoJimaVet
You asked for it. LOL! I think they get all over me because they want me to say 'hello' to the troops for them.
So troops, "a big "Hello" from Tinuviel(Monkey), Kele(Kiwi), Schatzie(Hell-cat), Sibyl(Beanie-Weasel), Mephistopheles(Pheles), Zachary(Jughead), Lace, Chambers(Puff'n'Stuff), Tasmin(Boo Bear), Osbourne(Oz-Man), Guenwhyvar(Gwinny Pig), Chelsea(Dough Cat), Cleo(Fle-o), Jool, Sapphire(Beep), Tarbaby(Itty Bitty), Damien, Moreta,(Mo), Spanky(Round Guy), Alfalfa(Alfie), Buckwheat(Booger Boy or Boogs), Stymie, Darla, Wheezer(Mr. Wheeze), Marmalade, Gomez, Morticia, Ophelia, Churchill, Cotton Mather, Arwen, Morgan, Toby, Lilith, Ferdinand(Fred), and Hollian(Holliberry).
Whew!! You don't know how hard that was to remember ALL those kitties!! I went blank towards the end and had to run around the house, looking at everyone. LOL!!!

Thanx you two. I most definitely haven't done this alone. I've had so much help from so many and am forever grateful.
Good night, Duchess. Sorry I got hung up on all those kittes' names and missed you. See you tomorrow.

Did your last vet check go OK?
To: Kathy in Alaska

Ooops. I thought you might be gone already.
We're still on a wait-and-see basis with Cotton Mather. His lumps went down with the medication, which wasn't a good thing. It shows a possibility of cancer. If they don't swell back up, he should be ok. If they do swell, then Doc will remove one for a biopsy. So far, so good though. My fingers are crossed.

LOL! I'm still here for a bit. I'm almost caught up, but still need to go to blue's MO FReep report. I just looked at the clock on my computer.... the time on the posts.... and my VCR.......They all just changed to 1am all by themselves. Yippee!
To: Kathy in Alaska
LOL! The only clock that changed automatically here is the one on the 'puter. The rest we have to fool with. Oh well.
I need to check Blue's report also. I haven't been there yet. I will before I go to bed.

sniff. Sorry I missed you tonight, Dakmar. Saturday is the one night we go out to eat and I'm late getting back to the Canteen then. I'd, personally, rather stay home so I can spend time with the Canteeners and the troops. The Canteen is important to me.
Hope to see you the next time you're here. :-)
