Let's keep a live commentary thread going again today. The FBI Tip Line #1-888-324-9800.
All seems quiet since yesterday's news the shooter may target children specifically. It was released on various news outlets the shooter's 3-page letter to police was in broken English and threatened extreme violence. Police announced an electronic transfer of $10m as requested by the shooter was not possible but other options for transfer remain open. No one seriously believes police will actually give the shooter $$, but police are trying to keep a dialogue open with the shooter in an effort to capture this monster.

Steve D on Fox & Friends is cracking me up about they way he talks about the sniper being hung up on and how the sniper has his own 1-800 number and how all we need is just one smart guy answering that phone. I am sorry for laughing it's just they way he says it. I guess I was worried that this was terrorist until I read what the nut job wrote in his letter. It makes me think it was a 3 page letter with him bitching about how he was treated by the hotline people and he ends with (Oh... by the way) Your children are not safe...blah blah blah. If this was a terrorist he would have stated "your children are not safe..." at the beginning of the letter not at the end.

I'm wondering if the money demand is from the sniper.
In the '89 or '90 abduction of Melissa Brannen from the DC area, ransom was demanded by Anthony Girard McCraxy, 23, and Emmett Muriel Grier III, 20 (a Howard U student). They were caught after the pickup of the ransom and it was determined that they had no part in the kidnapping. They received some prison time and should be out. Another man was eventually convicted.

Kim, I hadn't understood her sister works for LE. Should we try to pry a little more out of her today or leave it alone?

No, later it came out that someone had called the tip line. Right. (always helps to read the posts)

If it is organized terrorism, wouldn't it be happening in more than one major city? I think there's terrorism and there's terrorism. That is, I don't think it's all necessarily got to be on the grand scale, with coordinated attacks involving relatively large numbers of attackers.
This one attack has certainly been a very effective attack: he could have gone and done this in any city in the U.S., if what he really wanted was money, but he did it in DC, which is significant.

We're better off leaving it alone unless she brings it up.

I'd appreciate the information about the tip line if I knew what you were responding to.

Or, be a highly paid consultant to Al Qaeda. has anyone seen scott ritter lately?
To: maestro; aristeides
He kept the names of the people who answered the phone. Could Linda Franklin have been one of them?
Maybe, yes/no.......but,....either way,.....
It was reported that she had *not* been involved in working the sniper case.

He has the funniest sense of humor though... I've not seen him dance while giving the weather report for awhile. The first time I saw him do that I bout fell out of my chair laughing.. :)

Discovering the next note in Aspen Hill at 1:00 pm must be because they are doing all the CSI stuff by the book. You know bag it, log it, don't stop to try to analyze what you have. That will be done by someone else. That someone else is being pulled in other directions. Now that I think about it, 1:00 pm was pretty fast, considering!

I say it's time to up the reward to at least 10 million for the sniper's head and tell him we have one body bag waiting for him. Sure he will get upset and will call the tipline (well now the 1-800-1SNIPER number) and will make demands and he may kill again, but he may fly off his rocker and screw up causing him to be caught.
To: brigette
I want special ops guys lurking and hiding in the woods. Why can't they do that?
To: Peach
I think all of our imaginations are running wild!!
Here's the post slimer was talking about
To: TexKat
domestic, she'll kill me and never tell me anything again. I didn't want to post like this, but if she's right I couldn't have come back later and said, "oh yea, I knew that information." I probably wouldn't be believed.
My daughter needs to use the computer for school. grrr
