Anyone can call the previously published numbers...and say whatever they want, "I am the sniper and I am a right-wing, gun carrying redneck...etc".
The sniper, if that is indeed the person who left this number at the crime scene is the only one who knows what it is and thus when he calls it and claims to be the sniper possesses credibility.

Are you serious, when was the last time you called a government office.
Those of you jumping on Chief Moose for this announcement are more stupid than you claim he is. There are any number of logical reasons for the wording of the announcement, and none of them give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Don't discount the first part of the announcement. Chief Moose was forced to single out the chief of police in Ashland as doing such a good job.
This was a phone message left at the Ponderosa -- not a written message left at the shooting hide -- called in by the sniper after he got away but only just barely. He was impressed at the reaction time in Ashland and he attributed this to the chief on the scene there (I forgot the chief's name).
The number to call is either a phone booth, a disposable cell phone, or a number that the sniper is insisting be cleaned of surveillence.
From the gitgo I was sure that this was AQ terrorism. This tell's me it's a nut on a power play.

Don't let him bug ya. I try, but his lack of ability to use the English language drives me to yell at my TV.

I think he mixed up his message . . . The Moose cheer:

The police can trace cell phones... How do you think they are able to record calls by terrorists cell phones?

I think I'd be a little nervous if the perp had my unlisted number -- might he also have my unlisted home address????

"I try, but his lack of ability to use the English language drives me to yell at my TV."Ditto.
To: Lillee
I usually just lurk, but thought that the sniper could have left a "prepaid" cell phone, that he can call and not be traced. Moose is just letting him know they found it-maybe?My husband and I were talking about the same possibility. Who knows?? The statement was very cryptic.

Okay... But I thought the incident last night wasn't connected?

Moose hung up thinking they got the wrong number? "Can't you see I'm busy with an investigation here? I don't care who you're with! Leave a message and I'll get back to you!"

That is what they just said on Fox. That it is possible the police have taken over that number. Interesting to that they told the media to repeat the message over and over again!
