Poll: Democrat Leads Mich. Gov. Race
Wednesday October 16, 2002 9:10 PM
LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jennifer Granholm leads Republican Dick Posthumus by 10 points, according to a poll released Wednesday.
The poll by EPIC/MRA found that Granholm, who is state attorney general, was supported by half of the 600 likely voters surveyed. Posthumus, the lieutenant governor, got 40 percent. Nine percent were undecided.
The poll was conducted Sunday through Tuesday and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
An EPIC/MRA poll conducted Oct. 2-3 and 6 found Granholm leading Posthumus 53 percent to 41 percent.
Republican Gov. John Engler cannot run again because of term limits.
In the Senate race, Democratic incumbent Carl Levin led Republican state Rep. Andrew Rocky Raczkowski 57 percent to 30 percent.

Poll Ping!
As far as I am aware, these are the closest poll results at any time during this race.
If you want on or off my poll ping list, let me know!

I haven't seen the latest internals, but the lead has been cut. EPIC is the democrat pollsters.
This will be close. John Engler in 1990 was at 38%, and he won election day.

Michigan is a democratic state. The democrat will win. I am sorry to report this, but I even expected the state to support Bush - and it did not. I am one depressed republican from St. Joe in Berrien County

Have brother in Michigan..he is a snowbird to Florida
about 6 months out of year....How many freepers are from
Michigan? If my hunch is correct -they all know some
people who are voters in Florida..would like to see them and all Freepers help Jeb in his Florida race..Dems trying
to shove this down President Bush's throat...we have to
get Freepers all over the country to help....EMail or
call your Florida contacts...push Jeb ...jake.

The state senate has been GOP for 18 years, and the state hiuse is solid GOP.

Do you think the GOP can maintain control of the general assembly in the event of a landslide by the Hillary clone?

Do you think the GOP can maintain control of the general assembly in the event of a landslide by the Hillary clone? 1. Michigan has too many ticket splitters for that to happen. Gore won by 5 here(with heavy turnout) and the GOP kepts the legislature.
2. I don't predict a landslide. Dick Posthumus is no Bill Lucas, and Granholm is no Geoff Fieger.
3. The State Senate is in danger no matter WHO wins the governorship due to poor redistricting. The House should be solid.

Freepers in Michigan ought to count their blessings. At least MI conservatives will still have some say in public policy next year. As for me, I am counting down the days til extinction day for the IL GOP, which is 20 days. On Nov. 5th, the 'RATS are poised to win the governor's mansion, nearly all constitutional offices, and the general assembly. IL voters will be replacing a corrupt RINO regime with a corrupt 'RAT regime. The Land of Lincoln should renamed the Land of the Daley Machine.
