Former President Bill Clinton will join Bill Bradbury, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, for a "get out the vote" rally and fund-raiser on Halloween in the University of Oregon's McArthur Court.
Clinton will be the featured guest at the noon rally. Other participants will include Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Kulongoski and U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.
Art Alexakis, member of the band Everclear, and Florence saxophonist Paul Biondi will also participate in the event.
"When President Clinton ran for office in 1990, I campaigned on his behalf and was even the Oregon state chair of his campaign," Bradbury said in announcing Clinton's visit. "I am pleased that he'll be returning to Oregon, only this time the roles are reversed."
General admission tickets to the rally cost $25, or $15 for students, and are available by calling the UO ticket office at 346-4363 or Fastixx toll-free at (800) 992-8499. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
For information on VIP and premium seating, call the Bradbury for U.S. Senate headquarters at (503) 232-3113.
We will be there picketting him. Anyone who wants to come down and help are more then welcome.
On Saturday afternoon, we thought we would venture to the city of Eugene to see what the brouhaha was regarding the opening of Broadway Avenue. Oh my.
There were all the elements of a Third World country: Great masses of the unemployable and unwashed holding signs, complete with obscenities. People lying all over the courthouse steps. Other folks shouting curses at passers-by. Not to mention the offensive odors emanating from the Saturday Market.
A good humanitarian with a social conscience should be standing on the corners passing out bars of soap. There were considerable numbers of vacant storefronts, and a new public library with no parking. We could readily understand the reasoning behind the decision of many businesses to leave the downtown area.
We had heard many reports calling Eugene the People's Republic, but that day we found out first-hand that the truth was spoken.
Regarding Phil and Joyce Edwards' recent weekend foray to downtown Eugene (letters, Oct. 10): I'll take the "offensive" odors emanating from the Saturday Market over Weyerhaeuser any day. From tofu to Afghan cuisine to anti-war protests, variety is the spice of life - and downtown Eugene has it all.
Maybe if they start losing after 'Mr. do it in the Oval Office' visits it will be taken as a sign of divine disapproval over rubbing elbows with a deviant who can't even keep track of the dresses he stains. ;-)
Also, the last time Bill visited in the wake of the Turston High school shootings here, a man was convicted of endangering the president by placing pipe bombs in culvert along his route. I nderstand the black powder bombs were inert without a fuse or timer, but the Secret Service and FBI take a harst view of that sort of thing.
