By Associated Press, 10/15/2002 15:22 WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) A group of bowlers who stopped a man from leaving a bowling alley with an 8-year-old girl helped thwart a kidnapping, authorities said.

The guy is probably a creep and sick, and the parents should not have left her unattended in a public place. But all that aside, eight-year-olds are old enought to know who their relatives are and should be taught not to go anywhere with strangers. My friend's daughter is an example, she would never go anywhere with anyone she did not know. A lot of kids these days are paranoid about abductions and so forth, this kid sounds like she needs some instruction in being careful.

Eight year olds should NOT be responsible for their own safety.

A judge set Bean's bail at $250,000 after prosecutor Catherine Baumann said Bean had been convicted of kidnapping and served time in prison from 1979 to 1988.

Such people should never be released.

Bean was surrounded by nearly 100 bowlers

It's kinda sad he didn't try to resist.

Rehabilitation's best example with criminal justification in action....

Kids wander off all the time. It is never too young to teach them to be wary of strangers. Failure to do so in this case almost led to disaster.

Bravo bowlers! It bolsters my faith in humanity to hear of people who weren't afraid to "get involved."

Thing is, being New England, they were bowling with candlepin balls....these are only about 3-6 pounds each.

.........but you get three tries instead of only two!!!

That would leave a mark!

Correction.....the balls are no more than 2.7 lbs....I learned something new today.

I guess it's been too long since I've done some real (candlepin) bowling!!!!
