STREISAND WATCHES HER PENNIES
Barbra Streisand dined at Arnie Morton's in BevHills with hubby James Brolin, and when the $180 bill came, the diva whipped out a crumpled, 1-year-old $100 discount coupon then took a calculator from her purse and figured a 15 percent tip only on the $80 she had to cough up! That's right, folks Ms. MultiMillionaire left a lousy $12 tip for the poor schleps who waited on her!

All this talk about Babs lately has started a song in my head that I can't get rid of; about a second hand nose or something.

I have never seen a $100 discount coupon for a restaurant. Anyone? Gift certificate, yes. But not a discount coupon.
To: Vinnie
It could have been a gift certificate. Actually, that would make more sense than a $100 coupon, I think.
To: misanthrope
Ah hell, I misread the word "pennies" in the title.........I misread it, too, and supposed my suspicions about her being a guy in drag were correct....
To: HighWheeler
Sorry, I don't buy it.
Where's the proof about Barbra? How come no one else reported it? Usually newsworthy stuff like this is everywhere.

About the tip - do you get a tip where you work?Nope, but my salary has never been set on the assumption that I'd be getting tips. Except when I was a camp counselor some 20 years ago. :-)
Do you tip more than a couple bucks for lunch?
Depends on where I'm eating, how much the bill is, whether the service is really good or really bad, etc.
Why does it personally insults you her being frugal with her money? Do you feel that you are in charge of her money and she is suppose to throw a couple grands at lunch? Is that how you envision yourself to behave if you had a lot of dough?
For *me*, it shows that while Babs is free with spending our money, she's damn cheap with her own. For someone who keeps hectoring us about "common people," she sure treats them like crap.

I she would sell the few thousand pairs of shoes that she will probably never wear again she would have enough to leave a big tip every night for the rest of her life.

Only 15%? My service industry friends would be appalled (those who work in bars are more inclined to tip more).
I suppose that if she had eaten a $100 meal by herself that she would owe no tip?

They may be waiting in purgatory a L-ONG time.
"Um. I just died. Is there someone that could see me?"
"I'm sorry, that's not my station."
"Someone will be with you shortly..."
The revenge of the service industry.

It aint' that hard to figure 15 percent.
you can do 10 percent, can't you??
you can do 50 percent can't you??
you can add can't you??
just figure 10 percent, then figure 50 percent of that 10 percent, then add the two together. The result is 15 percent.

Never heard of that one
What's it supposed to do??

My daughter is married to a sailor and lives on Whidbey Island where she goes to school and works as a waitress. They deserve to be tipped 20% if they give good service. Streisand and her gang of limousine libs are really disgusting slime.
To: mamelukesabre
I said exactly that in another post. That's an old math trick.
Still..... dividing the bill by 7 (to calculate a 15% tip) is quicker and just as good.

Streisand is stiffing the working stiffs just as Hitlery and Bent do so often. They're all noclass! Ah, but the honor of serving such self-important people more than makes up for the cheap tips.
To: dennisw
Just double the tax.
To: Cultural Jihad
But meal taxes vary from state to state.

I am not a big fan of tipping but it is my understanding that when you get coupons or in this case a gift certifcate you are not supposed to base the tip on what remains of the bill after the coupon or certificate is applied. That only applies to the food portion. The wait staff are not the ones giving out the promotion. If the bill was 180 without any tax added the tip for 15% would be $27 and $36 if you tipped 20%. If the service was poor to Babs however maybe $12 was the right amount.
