STREISAND WATCHES HER PENNIES

Barbra Streisand dined at Arnie Morton's in BevHills with hubby James Brolin, and when the $180 bill came, the diva whipped out a crumpled, 1-year-old $100 discount coupon — then took a calculator from her purse and figured a 15 percent tip only on the $80 she had to cough up! That's right, folks — Ms. MultiMillionaire left a lousy $12 tip for the poor schleps who waited on her!

I suspect she got a gift certificate as a stocking stuffer some time back and tried to cash it in. She was just ignorant about the tip. Maybe she got mediocre service? It does happen in NYC.....or maybe she's just a miser.

"I'll have the fillet mig-non, esparagust with holiday sauce, a ceasar salad with blue cheese, the chocolate mouse... and he'll have the small water....and bring me 11 of those honey-mustard packs. I've also noticed the Sweet and Low and sugar bowl is empty. "

I think I read some years ago that she frequents thrift stores looking for really cheap deals.

Second Hand Rose...one of her early hit songs.

I am familiar with Morton's (it's either at 3rd and Doheny or Beverly and Doheny) and it sure ain't a place that would issue coupons. OTOH, since the coupon was for $100 this sounds more like some sort of gift certificate. Somehow I don't think you would see $100 coupons for Mortons in the Sunday section of the L.A. Times.

Divide your restaurant tab by 7 for the tip. That comes as close as you need to result in a 15% tip.

Good one! I hope that you are joking!!! The people that can't figure out 15% via multiplication, certainly can't do long division!!!

Personally, if the service is good, I tip 20% — not because I can't figure out the math, but just because I like to.

If the service is bad — that's another story...

Why, have you been wrongly accused by them in the past?

The typical scenario is

accusation is made by the Enquirer through an informant
denial is made by the accused
proof for the accusation pops up in the form of a document
the accused relinquishes and cries for forgiveness and tries to make ammends

Happens over and over....

I can divide by seven in my head .... but cannot multiply by .15.....at least not quickly. To multiply by .15 in my head it's easy if I figure out what 10% is then add half of 10% to it.

I've read about this story elsewhere (it may have been the Post's Page Six column, but I'm not sure) and that article said it was a gift certificate, not a coupon.

Look a little further: Antinomianism

"Antinomians believe in freedom from the obligation to obey the Moral Law to be saved."

Thanks for the original link, though, very interesting.

Maybe they didn't put rose petals in the pottie at the restaurant and that's why she left such a niggardly tip.

I *have* to ask. What does it do?

Visine constricts the blood vessels in your eye. According to the CSI show, if it's ingested, it could constrict the blood vessels to the heart and cause a heart attack.
