Support Retired Disabled Vets, Contact Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert today.

Call, Phone, Fax, email Speaker Hastert

Contact Hastert's office in DC or Illinois and tell him to get on board with Concurrent Receipt or he'll be Speaker of the House Has_Been instead of Speaker of the House Hastert.

Hastert is the biggest holdout in the house even with an overwhelming majority of bipartisan house support (93%).

Hastert supports money to bail out Boeing, but not for Retired Disabled Veterans.

I've been seeing a lot of ads about this issue, without any description of what Concurrent Receipts are. Why don't you tell us about them and why they are important. Also, why is Pres. Bush threatening to veto Concurrent Receipts if they are such a great idea? How much would Concurrent Receipts cost would be an interesting factoid not includeded in any of the material posted.

The issue of Concurrent Receipt has been fought for the last 13 years. Non-Concurrent Receipt has been in practice since the 1890's

Please see the following links to information on Concurrent Receipt

Concurrent receipt is like this -- a military man/woman has to serve at least 20 years to earn retirement pay benefits. The retirement pay is earned for that service. Now, if that same military man/woman was physically disabled during that period of service, he/she is entitled to disablity compensation that is a function of the serverity of the disablement.

Problem is, currently the amount of retirement pay earned is reduced dollar for dollar by the disability compensation received. So, you fund your own disability compensation, even though you earned 100% of your retirement pay.

What's worse, if that same military man/woman served less than 20 years in the military and was disabled during that military service and then joined any other government employment (like civil service in the Dept of Treasury) and stayed long enough to earn retirement, he/she would get full civil service retirement pay and (I repeat) and the disability compensation he/she deserves from the military disability. So where's the fairness? That's the issue.

Now we have over 90% of the House co-sponsoring the bill to fix the inequity yet Speaker Hastert doesn't want to put the bill to a vote with this amendment in it because Pres. Bush's underlings (OMB and DoD) have said he'll veto the bill if it has Concurrent Receipt in it. I'd like to see what Pres. Bush says -- send it up!

It's our diabled veterans and the families of our military men and women killed fighting for this country who should be getting more public assistance. Not New York stock brokers who happened to be victims.

I don't begrudge the money the victims of 9/11 and their families are getting. The assistance and charity of the American people have no equal in the world and never have.

I do however, think it's wrong for the government to be taking the Retirement Pensions of Retired Disabled Vets to pay for their own Disability payments.

Retirement Benefits were earned for 20+ years of service. Disability Compensation are payments from a grateful nation of wounds, illnesses and injuries suffered on active duty paid for by the blood, skin and muscle of vets.

I also believe that the assistance a family gets when a service member is killed on active duty is very very inadequate.

Don't forget that this is the only Federal job that is subject to this inequity. Other Federal employess can draw their earned retirement along with additional disability if job related.

Interestingly, Hasert did not spend a day in uniform...his claim to fame is a "family resteraunt"....and he makes the decision to stonewall?

I agree except that there are many retired service members who rode sick call the last few years prior to getting out and used the system to get their disability.

I served for 23 years and I had the same opportunity and didn't for integrity reasons.

Original Message - "We can get Dennis Hastert out of the House"

........................................................
Things are heating up in the Dennis Hastert/Larry Quick race in the 14th District. There has been a huge groundswell of support from around the country for Larry Quick from veterans because of Concurrent Receipt. Not so big (yet) but growing is support from farmers pissed off about disaster aid. And people in the 14th are not happy with Denny right now either (he has a local pet project that isn't going over very well and a general feeling of being ignored). I talked to a guy tonight who said he is a Republican and voted for Hastert in every election but that he sees that Denny has gotten "too big" to care about them anymore. He and his wife are going to do something he said they have never done before - vote for a Democrat. And they are going to tell their friends and neighbors to do the same. Just one example. We are hearing that more and more every day.

Next week we focus on a local media blitz. We need every penny Quick to Congress can get for print ads in local papers. Even a small donation will help. Paypal is up and running on the website.

THIS IS OUR BIG CHANCE TO HIT THE REPUBLICAN BALANCE OF POWER IN CONGRESS!

Larry is a very good man. 20 years as University Professor and management consultant. He taught leadership, management and accounting and served as director of Center for Ethics in Business at Illinois Benedictine and Deming Center for Ethical Leadership at Aurora Universities. Check out his website for more about him or feel free to send me a DU PM with any questions.
Thanks

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence-economic, political, even spiritual-is felt in every city, every state house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Farewell Radio and Television Address to the American People by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, January 17, 1961.
