California: Job market in low gear - Experts predict slow growth in California until later in 2003

Looking for a job? Don't expect to have an easy time of it in a California job market that shows little sign of escaping the doldrums until 2003, labor analysts said Friday.

The state jobless rate edged slightly lower to 6.3 percent in September, down a tenth of a percentage point from August, according to a report released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.

Between the high electricity prices, clogged roads, paid family leave, being 50th out of 50 states in worst business climate, and upcoming higher taxes, expecting any kind of uptick in employment in 2003 is extremely wishful thinking.
