Want to remember people if they don't have a Senate race up for grabs to please get involved in their Congressional races. Can state from experience that Congressional races need a lot of help. We have some key Congressional races the DemocRATs are targeting like the 4th District here in Oklahoma where fortunately Tom Cole, the Republican candidate, for J.C.'s seat is ahead in the polls. We are taking nothing forgranted nor is the State GOP Party -- not going to let up on any front. Vice President Cheney will be in our district this Tuesday for Tom Cole for Congress.
Our new head of the Oklahoma GOP, Chad Alexander, is a winner and best thing that has happened to OK IMO! The OK GOP office is giving us tons of support in Tom Cole for Congress campaign!

Paul Wellstone is Minnisota, not Wisconsin . . and he's gotta. Paul Wellstone voted against the United States.

I don't see any memorable quote here, but I love blackie's post.
The quote that starts the post is not mine, which is why I have it in quotation marks. If anyone knows the attribution, I would appreciate the information.

Updated Republican poll out of South Dakota.
Thune 47% Johnson 42% Evans 2% Anderson Group (R) 9/30-10/2 MOE 4.6%
To: patriciaruth
I thought I just saw on another post that Thune is up 5% points now in SD. Here it has him trailing?
I wish the election was this coming Tusday...

Map comes from the website noted.
All the publicity we can get on the Senate races is good. So, go for it! And thank you!

Can anyone explain why we have 35 Senate races this year, 2/3 of the Senate?
I thought they were supposed to stagger the Senate races so that only 1/3 would come up for election every 2 years, like 17 races every 2 years. That was supposed to insulate the Senate from the passions of the moment from having too great an effect on this "deliberative" body.

Good info, good post. You might want to check out TakeBackCongress.org, where a lot of this information is stored and updated regularly. From your link, check out what TakeBackCongress.org has to say about the impact the Libertarian Party canidates may have in the Colorado and South Dakota races respectively.
"Rated a dead-heat, Strickland went nasty negative early. Allard's response ad was strong and the voters are blaming both candidates for the dust-up. This is helping Strickland and a loopy libertarian candidate, Rick Stanley. If Stanley meets his polling numbers at 6% in the vote, he could throw the entire Senate to the left-wing.
"This is a big one. Johnson is very vulnerable and this would be a Republican takeaway. If he loses, it would send a message to Johnson's fellow South Dakota Senator--Tom Daschle--to stop playing games with the American people and our security. The real x factor in this race is the Libertarians. Here is another race where the Libertarian party may well throw the US Senate to the Democrats."
No wonder the LP is infested with Democrat style propaganda.

You are correct in that the long term and staggered elections were intended to "insulate" the Senate from the passions of the day. Originally, Senators were not elected by the people, but chosed by the State Legislatures, which insulated them even further from pandering to the electorate.

How many Senators do you think we have?

how do you do things like that? Need special software or some other program? It's very nice.

I know it's late, so I'll forgive you for your math troubles. There are 100 senators, not 50, so 1/3 of the Senate is 33. There are another two races this year because of what happened in Missouri with the widder Carnahan being appointed and some other state that must have a similar situation.

Look. I like a good deal of the Libertarian philosophical perspective. But I think the "teach the Republicans a lesson" stuff is counter productive. I call it holding their breath and putting Libertarian beans in their ears. All it does is elect democrats without pulling the Republicans in a smaller government direction.
So in the real world, I get annoyed when I see a splinter party of well meaning people who are mostly conservatives stepping up to throw the entire Senate to a group we all agree are really bad guys--the Dems. If there were some real world payoff, I might understand.

Thanks for all the polling data! I've posted that one to
TakeBackCongress.org. It was commissioned by the Republicans, so this race still looks like a dead-heat to me.
