The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

No boats were going out so I just hung around a little. Sounds like a good day to me. Glad you got a "real" day off. *HUG*

Terrific history today on General Twining. His career sure took him from the very bottom to the very top. Thanks. And thanks also for the Military Day in History.
To: SAMWolf
You're very welcome, Sam. We have a lot of fun in here, but we have a chance to learn a lot too. I'm something of a WWII enthusiast, and I learned some interesting and valuable things from your father's incredible story - I so appreciate your sharing it with us. Thank you so much.
Please give your father warmest regards from the daughter of an Iwo Jima vet.
To: Victoria Delsoul
Hi Victoria!!!!!

You know that all potatoes have eyes . . . Well, Mr. and Mrs. Potato had eyes for each other. They finally got married and had a little one -- a real SWEET POTATO whom they called "Yam." They wanted the best for little Yam, telling her all about the facts of life. They warned her about going out and getting Half Baked because she could get Mashed, get a bad name like Hot Potato, and then end up with a bunch of Tater Tots.
She said not to worry -- no Mr. McSpud would get her in the sack and make a Rotten Potato out of her! But she wouldn't stay home and become a Couch Potato either. She would get plenty of food and exercise so as not to be skinny like her Shoestring cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Potato even warned Yam, before sending her to Europe, to watch out for the Hard Boiled guys from Ireland and the greasy guys from France called the French Fries. They also said that she should watch out for the Indians, when going out west, because
she could get Scalloped.
Mr. and Mrs. Potato wanted the best for Yam, so they sent her to "Idaho P.U." (Potato University) from which the Big Potatoes come; then, when she graduated, she'd really be in the Chips. But one day she came home and told them she was going to marry Walter Cronkite. Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset. They told her that she couldn't marry him, because he's just a . . .
COMMON TATER!

A dumb blonde died and went to Heaven. When she got to the Pearly Gates, she met Saint Peter who said, "Before you get to come into Heaven, you have to pass a test."
"OH, NO!" exclaimed the blonde.
But Saint Peter said not to worry, because he would make it an easy test. "Who was God's son?" asked Saint Peter.
The dumb blonde thought for a few minutes and replied, "Andy."
"Andy? That's interesting. What made you say that?" inquired Saint Peter.
Then the blonde started to sing, "Andy walks with me. Andy talks with me. Andy tells me..."

Thanks.
Puter is OK. So don't talk too loud about it because it's very sensitive and doesn't like any criticism regarding its physical or mental condition. Any criticism regarding any aspect of its problem will send it to a rage and it will freeze in anger, so shhhhhhhhhh!

I was just re-reading your father's info.
He really is a HERO in every sense of the word.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub

To: SassyMom
Hi to you too! I'm still on the first page, but I gather you're still having ISP problems. Good luck! Maybe they'll learn not to mess with you. LOL! Calls, calls, calls. You know what they say about squeaky wheels.
To: Victoria Delsoul
Oh, I've never said anything bad about that computer! I was just asking if there is anything I can do for it -- I'll gladly help in any way I can.
;-)
Nice song, BTW.
