While driving home tonight I heard on WMAL AM630 (Washington, D.C.) that there was another shooting. This time back in Kensington (roughly where the woman vacuuming her car was shot). I haven't seen a verification on the Wash Post or WMAL's web page. Anyone else hear about it? They said they don't know if it's related to the other shootings (obviously if it just happened).

I'm actually glad that I'm leaving town for the week next week. Even though the odds are low, you can never tell...

Could this be the bar brawl shooting?

I'm listening to WTOP and the only shooting they have reported is the Peach Dr. (?) shooting.

Thats no guarantee--Spotsylvania is about an hour out of DC and Manassas can be during rush hour. (I live in DC and shop at the Costco just down the street from the Sunoco). Just get gas where you normally do--you probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than geting shot.

Ironically hopeful stat, since we all know we'll never win the lottery, right? God Bless and be safe to you and all Freepers living in the area. Our prayers are with you.

Dont fill up your gas tank until you are at least an hour outside the city. Something a lot of people have been thinking about. The shooters do seem to favor gas stations. There could be a lot of reasons for that.
One thing you might try while filling your gas tank is setting the clamp on the nozzle so you don't have to stand there holding it and either walking around or getting back in the car and shutting the door. Targets have been out in the open, near a street, relatively stationary, and sometimes occupied with a task (don't wash your windows - get some auto glass wipes and do that at home; also, be careful about waiting on the street for a bus or ride; try to stay with a crowd since the shooters seem to be looking for isolated targets).
Your car isn't bulletproof but the shooters seem to be looking for sure kills and no one enclosed in a vehicle has been shot yet.

"it and either walking around or getting back in the car and shutting the door."
Bad idea. Can result in a build-up of static, and a discharge which could ignite vapors when you go back to pull the nozzle out of the fill tube. While some dispute the static discharge causing exposive fires claim, others claim to have seen it happen.

I'm in Kansas and I got a better chance of getting shot by the sniper than winning the lottery.

Amen, amen, and amen. People who are afraid to pump gas into their cars could ride bikes instead. Then they would be saf.......D-OH!!

Maybe. Gasoline can be wicked stuff but I've never heard of that happening. It seems like if that were a substantial hazard it would have been with full service pumping too, when the attendant would set the latch and go elsewhere, possibly also separating from ground and building up a static charge/discharge nearby. On the other hand, people have for sure been getting shot to death at gas stations in the Washington DC area.
Any known examples of static discharge-driven gasoline fires/explosions happening when filling auto gas tanks? Just curious. I'm ready to believe.

Why don't you go to the Costco at Pentagon City? It's much closer! :)
