FWIW, THIS mom is armed at all times. Logically however, I know that in an instance such as the sniper attacks, who has managed to avoid being witnessed by anyone as of yet, my chances of defending my children or myself if up against a situation like that are low.
However, I exercise my right to carry a firearm on the chance of encountering a situation in which defense is needed, and when a window of opportunity to defend myself/children presents itself, I have something more substantial then a nail file or a set of keys.

I have no problem arming parents and teachers although I don't think this guy will be caught that way. He will most likely shoot himself first. Don't forget he has a telescopic site on his gun and is not going to stand out in the open to make a target for someone to shoot. More than likely he will have shot the person before they can even get their gun out. But if this helps parents and teachers cope psychologically with this - I say go for it!!!

I don't think this guy will be caught that way. probably not, but Columbine would have been a different story if teachers were armed. It may have never been attempted.

You have a point but those kids walked right in and did it in front of everyone. This coward hides and no-one seems to see him Just like David Berkowitz and the Zodiac Killer did.

"... and out comes the gun because you're allowed to have it," Wolf hypothesized. "That's not very far outside the realm of possibility." Not only do "their" arguments stink...their comparison is misstated. If something is just outside of the realm of possibility, does that make it somehow closer to being real?

This coward hides and no-one seems to see him He will eventually make a mistake and reveal himself. The more people that are armed, the better the chance of getting him.

I have no problem with that. Too bad I live in a socialist state like New York.

Too bad I live in a socialist state like New York. I understand. I live behind enemy lines also.

"If they were on school property and they got into something like this, would they not pull out their gun?" she asked. "That happens with road rage all the time."
They get away with it again. I want this woman to point to the cases of road rage that resulted in a shooting by a person who wasn't disqualified from having a firearm (i.e. too young, a felon, etc.) and wasn't defending themselves.

You may have the example you requested from an apparent "road-rage" incident that occurred on I-270 in Rockville, MD a couple of hours ago....

I'll wait for the full story. My bet is there either wasn't a shooting or the person who did the shooting would be disqualified from having a weapon.

Schoolteachers should not be armed -- nor most parents. I favor armed LE, armed security, and armed civilian patrols
I suppose{?} I can understand not arming teachers, especially if you mean while on the job, but I can't figure out the "nor most parents" part. I'm not clear if you mean while on school grounds or in general, or the rationale you use to make that generalizing statment.
Armed LEO/security/civ. patrols are a great thing, but if it came down to a do-or-die situation, I certainly would not depend on others to immediately avail themselves when seconds count and can determine the outcome.
I would however, be all for contacting the LEO so they may come and properly dispose of the dead body slumped over one of my windows.

Schoolteachers should not be armed -- nor most parents. I favor armed LE, armed security, and armed civilian patrols (comprehensive training and certification required AND close coordination with LE). Everyone should be armed.
But the problem with this sniper is that no one's *seen* him. Even an armed militia won't help in that case, unless someone either gets lucky, or figures out how to set a trap for the sonofabitch... the thought of which has been occupying my idle moments, predator that I am...

This is *excellent propaganda, though - *exactly* what we should be doing (my previous questions about the usefulness thereof in the present circumsatances notwithstanding...). This is the type of media operation that our enemies run because it *works* - seize the moment and use the circumstances to your advantage in the propaganda war.
We can only dream that NRA would take a lesson from this group.

He will most likely shoot himself first. Don't forget he has a telescopic site on his gun... I can't see any reason to support either of these assertions. What leads you to these conclusions?

Maryland State law (Article 27 Sec. 36A) expressly prohibits the possession of firearms on any school property, even if a gun owner possesses a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Most states have these "Sniper Protection" laws.

How much training do you think it requires to handle a firearm proficiently and within the bounds of the law?
