Monday Oct. 7, 2002; 10:25 p.m. EDT Kennedy: Bush Iraq Plan a 'Pearl Harbor in Reverse'
Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., said Monday that U.S. plans for preemptive action against Iraq reminded him of the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor 61 years ago.
Debating President Bush's request for congressional authority to make war, Kennedy warned the Senate that a U.S. Iraq attack would be "a Pearl Harbor in reverse," according to the Associated Press.
He urged the Bush White House to use the same restraint President John F. Kennedy did in not attacking Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis.
Sen. Kennedy made no reference to the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba a year earlier: the ill-fated CIA operation approved by his brother that prompted Fidel Castro to invite the Soviet Union to position nuclear missiles 90 miles off U.S. shores.
In urging Bush to show restraint towards Saddam Hussein, Sen. Kennedy seemed to be following in the footsteps of his late father, Joseph P. Kennedy, who, as Ambassador to the Court of St. James in 1939, argued that the U.S. should make a separate peace with Adolf Hitler.

I can only add that Kennedy also conveniently forgets that his father was likely selling arms to the Nazis. Moreover, Kennedy lied through his teeth about the Chappaquidick incident - having spent many summers on Martha's Vineyard I can say there is no way he swam the channel between Chappaquidick and Edgartown. It would be difficult at best for a professional swimmer. I fail to understand why anyone, including the press, pays any attention to what he has to say. Particularly since any semblence of sobriety is usually not around.

A more accurate comparison would be to debate our actions had we known of the approach of the Japanese fleet.
Teddy would advise restraint, no attack until the first bombs had fallen on Hawaii.
Most Americans would have prefered we launch a preemptive attack on the Japanese.

He urged the Bush White House to use the same restraint President John F. Kennedy did in not attacking Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis. What a STUPID analysis. JFK brought us to the brink of NUCLEAR WAR. That is restraint? The only reason JFK showed 'restraint' was that the Soviets threatened us.

Well, Neville Kennedy shows his colors again. (Yellow)

These liberals want a "smoking gun" problem is the smoking gun will either be a biological attack or a mushroom cloud. Kennedy needs to shit down, shut up, and the people of his district who keep electing this murderer into office should be ashamed of themselves.

I just heard [congresswoman] Eddie Bernice Johnson saying much the same. She said that Iraq cannot hurt us 'here in America'.
The first thought that came to mind is that someone needs to keep a list of these people. After Iraqi agents blow up a nuke in L.A., we'll know who to put up against a wall and shoot dead.

Maybe Kennedy need not forget about the footsteps of another great Amrican,Democrat Lyndon Baines Johnson who was responsible along with JFKs policies of killing off 56000 of our brothers in a place called Vietnam while their leaders in waiting were here demonstrating and protesting.
I personally dont know what the answer is but the only reason Saddam is not as dangerous as Hitler is because he doesnt have the armies and machinery that Hitler did. But if he ever controls Nuclear Weapons he will become as powerful as Hitler if not more so because he would be willing to use them and the people over there know it.If he can control the oil fields there he can control most of the world. If the Democrats were so concerned about America they would not have let this nations security and dependence upon oil set on the back burner under the Clinton Administration while playing politics.
The Democrats and Republicans should have learned under Carter about oil,yet the Democrats wont allow us to explore for and use our own oil reserves. They dismantled the CIA,FBI,ATF and the Immigration Naturalization Depts under Clinton and they along with the Republicans were responsible for this false economy that Wall Street Built
in the 1990s.
It is quit obvious who laws are made for, there are plenty of them to keep the average Joe in line and in jail but the rich upper crust can steal a Nations Wealth and we find there is no laws on the books to cover it.
Wake up America the "Rule of Law" is exactly that. The Rich and Powerful Rule by the Law. The average American is only a pawn in a Chess Match.

Ted, the war hero. Service, in Paris as a clerk after being kicked out of Harvard for cheating. I wonder why he didn't go to Korea?
Also, remember when he brought his own private bodyguard to a congressional hearing, and the guard had a loaded, full auto sub-machine gun? Of course no guns for the little people.
Further more, Joe Kennedy, the ex-Congressman who dumped his catholic wife, he has a oil company. Citizen Oil. Last I heard he was sniffing around Angola, trying to get in on the ground floor and snuggleing up to the thugs over there. I wouldn't doubt that Tedy's statements aren't to help out Joe in Iraq. After all, the old Joe's money isn't going to last forever.

I live in Massachusetts.
If you promise, really, really, to bomb, and promise to use large thermonuclear devices........
.......I'll hold up the radar reflectors for the warhead target acquisition systems.
It's the least I could do.

i don't understand what the 'sneak attack' part is all about---the real sneak attack would be if we attacked Pearl Harbor ourselves (THAT would be a surprise) ... ted's such a goober
