[history]
Locked in a heated re-election bid and facing mounting questions about his ethics, the senior senator from New Jersey was expected at a Hoboken Arts Festival last Sunday afternoon.
He never showed.
Torricelli was at his New Brunswick headquarters, reviewing results of an internal poll tracking his re-election prospects. The news was grim. Torricelli's support was collapsing, and he trailed by double digits.

Torricelli began to fear his former Senate nemesis would emerge as the front-runner. One source present said Torricelli bluntly told the Governor: "You can't nominate Frank Lautenberg."
The source said McGreevey told Torricelli not to worry because Lautenberg's name was far down the list, below several other eager candidates.
I love it when Demmycrats backstab other Demmycrats. Down here, Janet Reno was recently the victim of a backstab from the Billary/McAuliuff gang.

It's hard to say anything good about any Democrat (except Zell Miller) but here goes. Kudos to all of the potential real Democrat candidates who had the common sense to pass on being involved in this mess. Now running Lautenberg adds an exclamation point to the whole liberal sham.

"You can't nominate Frank Lautenberg."Hey Torch. How does it feel to be irrelevant. HeHeHe. The only good thing to come out of this whole mess is the image of Torch crying himself to sleep.

The Torch has a pathalogical aversion to the truth, second only to the Clintons.
I quit reading at the first, 'Torricelli said'.
Also, I don't like to read articles that use extensive unamed sources. It's too easy for the reporter to cheat and fill in the blanks.

At 6:10, two state troopers on the Governor's protective detail delivered pizzas. Twenty-minutes later, Lautenberg arrived. Nice to know that NJ corruption isn't limited to just Torricelli.

Yep. I seem to remember that military officers were used as servants in the Klintoon/Monica White House.
And pizza seems to be a re-occuring theme with corrupt Democrats, doesn't it?

When does Torch's prison term start? He can share a cell with Chang and Traficant.

"
Torricelli called Angelo Genova, the Democratic Party's top election lawyer, and asked: Is it possible, just five weeks before Election Day, to put another candidate on the ballot? "I find it hard to believe that it was T's idea to pull out.

...or do the Bataan Death March until Election DayI love that picture. I wish that that is what they decided. Instead, we have a slimy has-been back in the race, and he'll probably win -- if my daughter's friends are any example.
I called her yesterday to ask her friends and neighbors were saying about this mess. "Oh, we don't talk about politics," she answered. If this attitude is representative of her wealthy, suburban community in North Jersey -- Lautenburg has a lock on the race, just because of name recognition. :~(

There is nothing in this story about any concerns about actually being able to replace Torricelli on the ballot. They had to have considered it - why isn't that angle mentioned in the story? Did some of the backroom planning include calls to Justices to see how they would rule?
To: tjg
I quit reading at the first, 'Torricelli said'.You are right. All other reports have Torch fighting his ouster all the way -- it was a coup by party bosses. This piece is nothing but Torch spin -- in other words, BS.
To: PJ-Comix
Well, so much for the voters choosing a candidate in primary elections. What a sham.

" There is nothing in this story about any concerns about actually being able to replace Torricelli on the ballot."
Or anything about respecting the law or what is best for the voters of New Jersey. I hope that the Torch "unresigns"-Gore did it. The Democrat Party is the " UN" party-unlawful, unconstitutional, unpleasant, unpalatable, unctous, undeserving, under cover of darkness, undercutting, unconscionable, unprincipled, undermining, unbalanced,,unbred, uncharitable, uncivilized, unclean, unchancy, unchecked, uncocked, uncomprehending, unbrotherly, uncrowning and on and on-but, above all, just plain UnAmerican.
To: Exit148
Me, too. And I am NOT buying that part where the senator and the governor didn't want him to pull out.
This sounds like The Torch's "version." We won't hear the actual truth until it's too late.

It's quite shocking to me that the only thing that matter to them was one thing:
THE SEATThey make no bones about it; and they did it right in front of our very eyes. Stunning.
