Mexican Senators Assessing Migrant Problems in Arizona
Santa Fe New Mexican ^ | Oct. 2, 2002 | Walter Berry

PHOENIX—A delegation of Mexican senators and officials from a human rights commission began a three-day fact-finding mission Wednesday to assess how Mexican migrants are being treated in ArizonaHigh on their priority list is discussing ways to prevent violence along the U.S.-Mexico border, reduce the number of deaths among illegal immigrants crossing the southern Arizona desert and combat migrant smugglers.

"This is a three-tier problem," said Ruben Beltran, Mexico's consulate general in Phoenix. "We need to get more information out to migrants about the dangers of crossing the desert, warn migrants not to use coyotes (smugglers) and fight organized crime that is generating tremendous profits in the smuggling of people."

A record number of border crossers - 145 - died in Arizona during the 2002 fiscal year that ended Monday including 83 of heat exposure, according to figures released by the U.S. Border Patrol.

"We are all alarmed by the numbers and very concerned," Beltran said. "But this is something that can't be solved by just one of the countries. It should be solved jointly by the three-tiered strategy - information, education and a decisive attack on the smugglers."

The group, which includes six Mexican senators plus senior officers from Mexico's National Commission of Human Rights, had meetings here Wednesday with Immigration and Naturalization officials plus Gov. Jane Hull and representatives of the Arizona Attorney General's Office.

It is scheduled to meet Thursday in Tucson with Border Patrol officials, the U.S. Attorney General's Office and the Pima County Attorney's Office.

On Friday, the senators will go to southern Arizona desert areas where numerous illegal crossers have died "to have firsthand contact with the border and its realities," Beltran said. "We broke all records this year and we are very sad about that."

Since taking office in 2000, Mexican President Vicente Fox has pushed the United States for an agreement giving legal status to millions of undocumented Mexicans in the United States.

But President Bush's administration has sidelined the issue and focused more on border security in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the East Coast.

An estimated 20 million Mexicans live and work in the United States, including many on Arizona farmlands.

"There is a labor market on this side of the border with better wages. They fuel the economy of the state to a large extent," Beltran said. "But Mexican immigrants face the inability of obtaining driver's licenses, access to health care.

"We are all behind President Fox on the issue of a migratory agreement. We want a long-term solution to the migration problem."

Blah blah blah...I am sick of hearing Fox's constant whinging on his desire for us to legalize the law-breaking roaches from his country.

Send the critters back...the US is not a roach motel.

Hey, Mexican Senators and officials, how 'bout creating a country south of the Rio Grande where people have opportunities to succeed the way they do north of the Rio Grande...?

If the Mexican Senators are that concerned then they should have Mexico work to keep the border closed. Or, are the illegals just Mexico's trash until they cross the border and then the concern starts?

It's apparent that the Mexican Senators' problem is how to get them here faster.

You will see the border sealed by Mexico if "immigrants" begin returning....

"An estimated 20 million Mexicans live and work in the United States, including many on Arizona farmlands.
(Not to mention a few million on the streets of any city in california - OK, I know, living in the DRC means deserving what you get..)

"(1)There is a labor market on this side of the border with better wages...(2) They fuel the economy of the state to a large extent," (3)"But Mexican immigrants face the inability of obtaining driver's licenses, access to health care.(4)"We are all behind President Fox...We want a long-term solution to the migration problem."

So:
(1)DO SOMETHING about building a labor market in your own damn territory,
(2)BullSh**, they take up space and burn out services put in place for LEGAL residents.
(3)Also bullsh**, they crowd the freeways with or without licenses, they do NOT obtain (legally mandated) insurance and do NOT hang around to cover costs or take responsibility for their traffic accidents, and they have swamped the local hospitals with kids and "emergency" care for sniffles, family fights, and (again) traffic accidents.
(4)Best way to 'get behind' el-presidente would be somewhere closer to mexico city ...and they could show support for OUR president (*) by taking sevreal thousand gang bangers and drug dealers back with them!

(*)Note to OUR president - take a fast guess at the one thing you are doing totally WRONG so far!

Who smuggled the six Mexican senators into Arizona?

They've been meeting for 20 years. Very secretive about agenda, but open borders is one of their visions.

These corrupt jerks are intentionally creating a diversion from the real problem. The first step to addressing the problem would be for them to look in a mirror. The next step would be to start cleaning up the their own corruption. If the natural resources in Mexico were developed, and the corruption cleaned up there would be plenty of work for everyone in Mexico, until someone takes the initiative to do that, Mexico will continue to be a parasitic nation, at our expense.
