Edited on 04/22/2004 12:34:49 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

He states in Talking Points this evening that calling homosexuality sinful is wrong and that the Religious Right has lost it's influence.... He began by calling it (Talking Points) a warning to religious conservatives. Does anyone know if he will put the transcript of tonight's Talking Points on his site?

[Directed at O'Reilly]

O'Really? Check out Romans 1. It's in our training manual, bub. And BTW, anyone who wants our children exposed to homosexual scout masters and homosexual teachers has lost touch with grass roots America. Ask around on the street, dumbell. Remember how to do that?

In fairness, O'Reilly wasn't saying that homosexuality was right. He was making the much more limited point that calling anything "sinful" was not useful in arguing over what public policy should be, given that we live in a secular society.

In other words, relying on religious arguments for purposes of advocating public law is counter-productive and will tend to be rejected by a majority of Americans.

He might be right, he might be wrong. But in fairness, he was not saying that those who argue homosexuality is sinful are incorrect as a matter of substance, and that if fact homosexuality is OK.

Christians have a right to state their beliefs..or opinions without being shouted down, I don't recall the viewer using the word sinful associated with public policy in his letter.

I've always stated that paying any attention to O'Reilly is wrong and he can only influence the feeble-minded.

The gist of O'Reilly's statement was that if you use religious based words such as "sinful", and relate it to the Bible, especially when referring to secular items, events, people etc., then the connection is specious.

It is much like referring to a lying SOB like Tom Daschle and his ilk and then saying they should be "ashamed" for something.

In the new liberal/socialist world there is no shame...

He's right.
BTW...good summation of the thrust of his "Talking Points".

They sure use it for "sin-taxes" though dont they. Hypocrites.

Fine line of reasoning--problem is that it is founded on the assumption that the prohibition on the conduct is an abstraction--God does not really exist; therefore this is just a public policy debate and if they do it behind closed doors and don't polute our kids, its ok.

God is reality--He is really there; He really does not like the conduct; and He tends to punish people for thumbing their nose at Him. So get prepared; because like Israel in 588 BC, America is about to get hammered by God for its public policy commitment to sinful conduct.

Don't forget the gay, pedophile, priest....Mr.O'Rielly claims to be a member of that particular denomination....Their Bible has the same scripture you quoted....Picking and choosing which scriptures are relevant, Mr. O'Reilly makes you nothing more than a hypocrite to which you have no business criticizing others who happpen to believe the entire text of the Holy Scriptures are relevant...

Your summary of the talking points memo is very accurate unlike several other statements in this thread that attribute personal perceptions to O'Reilly.
