Friday, Oct. 4, 2002'Hanoi Jane' McDermott Caught in Lie About Being Vietnam War Vet
Saddam Hussein's best friends on Capitol Hill, Democrat Reps. Jim McDermott and David Bonior, are lying about being Vietnam War veterans.
McDermott, dubbed another "Hanoi Jane" Fonda by House Minority Leader Trent Lott, claimed Sunday on ABC, while standing next to Bonior, "David and I were in that war." Bonior boasted Wednesday that he had formed a group called "Vietnam Veterans in Congress."
Their defenders in their party have also implied or said outright that the men saw combat duty.
The pro-Democrat media establishment has parroted the claims without bothering to check those pesky facts, but Fox News Channel's Brit Hume knows a phony when he sees one.
A Hash Slinger and a Shrink
Bonior, who was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, never left California, where he was stationed. His own Web site admits he was a cook "slinging hash by day" and going to college at night. (He received a degree in history but apparently never heard the old saying about how those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.)
"As for McDermott, he never left California either. He was a Navy psychiatrist in Long Beach who treated actual Vietnam vets when they got home," Hume reported Thursday night. Oh, those lucky patients.
Many people are furious about what they see as treasonous behavior by McDermott, D-Wash., Bonior, D-Mich., and their fellow traveler to Baghdad, Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif. But no one has more reason to wish they would shut up than the Democrat establishment.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer had this to say about McDermott: "It's his right to say anything he wants, no matter how foolish, and he exercised that right." Translation: The more McD spouts off, the more he embarrasses his party.
McDermott handler John Larmett told the Seattle Times that calls to the congressman's office were about 50-50 for and against his anti-war position.
"While some have called McDermott a 'moron' and a 'traitor,' at least a couple callers have suggested he run for national office," the Times said. The Republicans would love nothing better.

I like Brit! :-)

A freeper reported this a couple of days ago, when they looked up their service record. Nice to see Brit and Co. are running with it. As usual, you see it here first!

House Minority Leader Trent LottA minor point perhaps, but Lott is the Senate Minority Leader.

Notice how the Left constantly bashes Bush about being in the ANG during the Vietnam War and that he never went to Vietnam. Bush never claimed to be a Vietnam War Vet. However, Bonior and McDermott claim to be Vietnam Vets but never left stateside in their capacities as "shrink" and "hash-slinger". The Left is silient on this sham and I hear CNN always calling them Vietnam Vets in order to prop up their credibility to unsuspecting viewers.
LOL

LMAO ...
I am not a 'Nam vet tho' I served in the Marines in the early 70s.. I served a few hundred miles away on the Rock in a support role. I always say I'm a Viet "Era" vet when I have applied for work. But, you know what, I was ready to go in country, anytime... and almost did a couple of times.
That some smarmy frickin' politicians now embellish their records pisses me off. How dare they?

Lott is the Senate Minority Leader. Lott might be in the Senate, but ... the term "leader" doesn't fit him.

That should read:

Seriously, this is how I heard Senator John McCain explain the difference on Fox News the other day:
1. Jane Fonda was a "troubled young actress"
2. McDermott, and comrades are *Congressmen*, sworn to uphold the Constitution and protect the U.S. from her enemies.
