Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.
About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.
No one else was injured.
The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.

Very nice! I have fired a Remington pistol chmbered in .233 (I forget its number/name). Normally, I deer hunt with a .44 mag Smith 629 Classic. And I won't mess with Sissy!

Area fire is great, & definitley has its place, but we still need to teach the boys to shoot straight.

I'll bet it's someone in a van, shooting from a long distance, then making an inconspicuous getaway.

My sister just bagged a mule deer last weekend with a .223 cal. Savage 110. The animal was dropped in it's tracks from a dead run at a little over 100 yards.
Don't mess with sissy.
Nice shooting!
I got my last mule deer with a .300HH model 70 at about 800 yards.
Luckily it wasn't moving.

I'm so glad to hear you're okay. Being there just a few hours before the shooting is a scary thing!

Actually, the more I think about it, the more relavent it is that all seem to start at a Michael's. This could be a coded "message" to any other cells about who is behind it; in other words, if your local news is running a story on a nearby shooting spree, and one of the victims was in the parking lot of a Michael's, that is your cue to begin "plan 14XKM".

The same information from another source (an update to the story in reply #392 of this thread):
Investigators Still Searching For White Truck POSTED: 8:11 a.m. EDT October 4, 2002
UPDATED: 5:14 p.m. EDT October 4, 2002
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Police say the weapon that wounded a woman outside a mall near Fredericksburg, Va., does not appear to have been a high-powered rifle like the one involved in a series of shootings in Montgomery County, Md.

Is this another "happy face" pattern? Has anyone already asked that?

Rule #1: Hits Count!
Nothing crossing the local news between 4:00 and 5:00 PM CDT here in the midwest. Can we confirm the source of the latest sniper type shootings today?
If bona fide, it seems the media is holding tight. Does the arrests of Al Quida (sp?) cells today signal that the remaining cells may be surfacing and carrying out independant or preplanned actions? Still appears to be limited to the MD/VA area. Any other "sniper" type events elsewhere in the country.
Lastly be careful with any garbage being spewed from CNN. It's quite likely some bullet fragments may be similar to a .223.5.56mm. That still does not rule out a .222, .224 Weatherby magnum, .218 BEE and a host of high velocity .22 caliber centerfire cartriges.
Boldly claiming it's a .223/5.56 NATO -without- the possesion of a -cartridge case- is wild speculation.
Leave it to CNN to fabricate news during an important event.
Bet you'll never find out their "source" of the .223 claim!

From what I understand, it's safe to shoot .223 ammo out of a 5.56 barrel, but not vice-versa. Go ahead and call to confirm that, though.

I agree, and we should be teaching them way before they enter the service.

See reply #179.
I'd have to say it's doubtful.
