There may not have been a sign at a Washington book store proclaiming it a "No Barking Zone," but a couple of yapping dogs got former Clinton aide and ABC News host George Stephanopoulos ejected from the premises.
According to today's Washington Post, Stephanopoulos was browsing at a Georgetown Barnes & Noble store hard by his Washington town house when one of his two dogs began barking.
The Post reports that when the family dachshund, Gilbert, started barking and refused to stop, Stephanopoulos was "summarily ejected" from the bookstore.
"He had a baby carriage, and two little yapping dogs," a Barnes & Noble patron e-mailed the Post. "He was looking at the magazines, and these dogs kept yapping, really loud! I figure you have to have some kind of an ego or be a foreigner to think it is okay to bring your dogs into a store. The security guard told G.S. he had to leave. He wheeled the baby carriage towards the door with the two yapping dogs on their leash."
Stephanopoulos told the Post: "They're great dogs -- a dachshund, Gilbert, and a Lakeland terrier named Charlie. But let's be fair to Charlie. He wasn't the one who was barking. That was Gilbert. And neither of them was 'yapping.'"
Stephanopoulos explained "I was in the periodical section reading Lewis Lapham in Harper's, and Gilbert wanted to go over to check out the bestsellers. It was all over in a minute and a half. I was asked to leave and I left."
Barnes & Noble remained mum over the incident.

He wheeled the baby carriage towards the door with the two yapping dogs on their leash." Thanks for the clarification. For a moment I had a mental image of Stephanopoulos wheeling the yappy little dogs around in a baby carriage.

I hope he had his newborn babe in it, but maybe the wife was at home with the child and the pram was for the doggies, who knows?

I thought dwarf tossing was illegal.

Gilbert wanted to go over to check out the
bestsellers.
Gilbert is a conservative! Terriers are smarter than george!
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
They shouldn't have thrown him out - he would have left soon enough anyway...
There can't be THAT many "picture-books" to look at in a Big People's store like that.

I'm sorry, Gilbert. Dachsunds are smarter than george!

Poor dogs. They have to live with Georgie? Can't say I blame them for trying to alert people in the store that they were being kept against their own free will. Where's PETA?
