Do the Republicans really stand a chance to win Senate? (Vanity)

See these polls. It does not look all that good. I really expected both Carnahan and Johnson to be down at this point. The Hutchison race in Arkansas and the close race in Texas is just very surprising to me.

Can anyone cheer me up?

Nope. It all depends on 1 week out.

This Torch stuff in NJ will be fixed by the DNC and the media and NJ voters will not blink an eye....especially if the DNC gets a photogenic young lad to run. The media will do its best to launch the new candidate into the race and it will bemoan the Republican court challenges. I can see it now on CNN. They will show a NJ voter just thanking the power-that-be for getting a better candidate in there to vote for. So much for the rule of law or the primary system. LOL

Carnahan, Johnson, Wellstone, and whoever the RATS illegally place in New Jersey will lose IMHO, Hutchenson will retain and we will not only pick up 4 seats but regain the Senate on Nov. 6th because of Carnahan losing in this special election.

We might even see Harkin lose also, nThe polling trends are definately in our favor and the bazaar behavior as of late from the RATS seem to back up my predictions. But my guess is 4 seats in the Senate and 2 seats in the House

Agreed. NJ is lost. The Torricelli action, while repulsive, is a master stroke and will succeed. Allard is in big trouble, as is Hutchison. Baucus should have been a goner but has not even been challenged. Carnalhan will win. Cleland and Landrieu will not be defeated.

Wellstone will lose. But even a gain of one seat will be negated by a certain Lincoln Chafee defection. Harkin is the only ray of hope for a GOP majority.

Get out the vote in Colorado, Missouri (to counter dead voters and corrupt black districts), and Arkansas. We must defend our turf, and net at least +1 somehow. And hope for the best.

Wayne Allard will beat the liberal Tom Strickland in Colorado and the GOP will retake the Senate.

You are wildly optimistic. I am hoping you have some logic and data to back this up, as I could use the good cheer.

I do not need any encouragement in this direction.

NJ is lost.

Dems do not even have a candidate. I have heard of pessimism, but this is ridiculous.

If there is no turnaround in the economy, a big Democratic gain is likely.

What are Tim Hutchinson's personal problems? I've seen them mentioned as the reason for his trailing, but they are never explained.

There is not time nor need for a "turnaround". The economy has turned around, but as your comment and others just like it proves, no one really knows it nor has felt its effects yet.

Regardless of whether you agree it has turned, you have to agree nothing significant is going to happen in a month with regard to the economy.

I believe he divorced his wife and has been involved with a young staffer.

I have been watching the polls for the last 2 months and where the rats were leading their lead ahs deminished, Some polls vary, but all had Torricelli leading 2 months ago and now he is behind by double digits. Those same polls had Thune way behing Johnson and Now most have Thune ahead. Carnahan was ahead by 6 points 2 months ago and now most have it dead even. Wellstone was also ahead by 6 points by most and now they have them as dead even.

Arkansas's Senator Hutchenson was behind by 12 points two months ago and he is now withing 4 points, Harkin had a big lead 2 months ago and now that has narrowed. I see the trend in our favor big time and with just a month to go, I feel we have the advantage. Not to mention the RATS are not doing themselves any favors lately. The democrats are resembling the Hindinberg these days :-)

We'll see how it looks when the polls switch from registered to likely voters for their numbers.

I have been watching the polls for the last 2 months...

Thanks for your post, this is truly good news. I am alarmed that Hutchison is behind even though you say he is making up ground.

The site I visited mentioned that Thune had been ahead but that Johnson may have stopped the bleeding. Carnahan should be so beatable, but for some reason seems to be hanging in there. The site I referenced in the original post had her with a slight boost in recent weeks.
