I don't watch these movies (not anymore; they're boring as hell). But the AFA is off its rocker on this one.
Don't they have something better to espouse?

Think of it this way: If they succeed, the popularity - and hence supply - of hotel broadband connections will increase.

They wouldn't have to argue about morals if they'd just republish recent reports of lack of sanitation in hotel rooms. One of the magazines ran tests and discovered that one of the worst sanitation problems in hotels is semen on the walls, rug, mattresses, etc.....EeeeeeeUuuuuuu, who could possibly want to stay in a room where the last person was watching porn?
To: PoisedWoman
While it's a safe assumption that if the last person in the room watched porn they... contributed to the semen problem, the reverse doesn't hold true. People can... contribute to the semen problem without watching porn (more importantly without watching porn that was provided by the hotel).

The hotels will fight this. Those movies are extremely profitable.
There was a case some years back in Utah where a small-town video store owner was charged with stocking obscene material. He was able to defend himself on the grounds that similar videos were being shown at the local hotels.

I travel, and I've started staying only at hotels that have DSL. Holiday Inn Express is the cheapest in that category.

do people who watch Woody Allen movies go out and start just cracking hysterical jokesOr do they suddenly become neurotic?
The AFA would do better to rent a Woody Allen movie.

Reefer Madness, anyone?

Sweden has porn day and night all over TV. And we all know that the Sweedes are maniacal killers.

What a bunch of wackos.

I'm not a fan of porn, but these people are off the mark here. Porn viewing does not cause violence (particularly violence against women) if anything, one would think it prevents violence by providing an outlet for frustrations.

Unless hotels across the country stop piping X-rated movies into their roomsActually the movies they show aren't very hot at all.

contribute to the semen problem without watching pornUm, up on the wall, 'way up high, huh? A vision I'd rather not be having.

If someone's an, ahem, sleaze he would be more likely to want porn. If Marriott went pornless, it would get fewer sleazes. Yes the sleaze could bring in a Penthouse or a personal video tape (in rooms equipped to play them) but if it's an extra bother then the place would be less preferred by sleazes.
However I'm not holding my breath for Marriott to go pornless. They have hosted open S&M parties.

They should put out a "Porno Madness" video. Gotta love junk science.

Freaks is freaks. But freaks can be freaks without porn. Or they could have brought their own. Most business travelers have laptops, most laptops have DVD players, smut comes on DVD amung other formats.
