EVERY NJ CONGRESSMAN HAS TURNED DOWN THE DEMS!!!!!! They know this plan will never fly. Why should any of them give up his House seat?
To: Cyber Liberty
They'll sure try it. Someone said on another thread said the SCONJ has a Republican majority.

another poster just stated that Bradley turned it down too...

"On Local Philly News their reporter just reported that EVERY NJ CONGRESSMAN HAS TURNED DOWN THE DEMS!!!!!!" Yes, but it's still too early to tell if that is good news or bad news.
Did they turn it down because they knew it would look bad, or did they turn it down because some political "untouchable" (e.g. Lisa Beamer, though I don't mean to slander her) is going to get the nod?

You know assistants have been phoning him on the plane -- he'll take their calls. Exactly. If Bill's the one (I'm making no predictions), then these folks will have set something up -- the dramatic surprise call, or some such. It'd take Forrester out of the news for days.

So, what will Torch do if no suitable replacement can be found?

Someone said on another thread said the SCONJ has a Republican majority. I can hear it now, can't you?

Every 'Rat Congressman turned them down? Even that smarmy one who stole the election down in South Central New Jersey last time round? What was his name?...
If that's true, they really have no shot with this thing.
To: Miss Marple
The other thing about this is whether the Democrats will drag the media into the slime with them. How will the media cover this? Will they cheer the Democrats on or question the tactics? Will they focus on the loopholes and make it sound legal or will they focus on the voters and question the shenanigans?

That would make sense, since Whitman had control of the appointments until 2001.
So suddenly, the Rats plan is foiled by not having a sympathetic court. Ha!
I still say this press conference will be really smarmy.
To: LisaFab
They'll sure try it. Someone said on another thread said the SCONJ has a Republican majority. I'd assume that most of that court was appointed by Christie Todd Whitless....
Writmeister has settled it. From another thread:The United States Code mandates that the federal general elections be held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. 2 USC §1, 7. The United States Constitution proscribes six-year terms of office and the placement of seats in specific classes mandating the end of their terms. US Const. Art I §3(1) & (2). The United States Supreme Court has interpreted the Times, Place and Manner clause as mandating the November general election and held that any conflicting state stautes are inoperative so far as the conflict extends. Foster v. Love, 532 US 67, 118 SC 464, 139 LE2d 369 (1997).
McGreevey cannot appoint anyone for a 6-year-and-three-month term. The election must take place as scheduled on November 5. End of story.
To: Southack
Did they turn it down because they knew it would look bad Most likely, because they'd be giving up their sure chances of election to the House for a toss-of-the-dice chance at the Senate.
Nobody in their right mind would do that. It'd have to be somebody who's not currently in office.

So, what will Torch do if no suitable replacement can be found? Could McGreevy appoint himself?
To: LisaFab
Someone said they thought the New Jersey Supremes had been stacked with Christy Whitman appointees (could be RINOS)
To: teletech
Could all the delays with Torch's press conference be because they can't find a replacement?
To: gridlock
Sen. Springsteen, anyone?
To: Miss Marple
How many times can they kick the ball down the road ?
I mean . . it's like ya run your election and if you're down in the polls by 14 (as torch is) you just ask the party to pull you and do it all again in a few months.
At theis pase, the DNC could run the entire cast of the sopranos through this revolving door untill they get soneone that wins. No ?
To: dubyaismypresident
Why not!
