GOP Hopes Brighten in Fierce Fight For Senate: Democrats Face Battle To Recapture House

Democrats face an uphill battle to recapture control of the House in November's midterm elections, while Republicans have marginally improved their position in what remains a tense and wide-open fight for control of the Senate, according to party strategists, independent analysts and current polls.

September has seen Republican prospects brighten, particularly in New Jersey, where ethics problems have called into question what once seemed solid reelection prospects for Sen. Robert G. Torricelli, the most vulnerable Democrat in the nation. Republicans also have increased their chances of retaining the Senate seat in New Hampshire. And because of a controversy over a leaked transcript of a private GOP campaign meeting, they may have an opportunity to make a run at Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin (D).

 How irrelevant does Jeffords become when the rats are in minority status? I look forward to that discussion.

 Does he caucus in the men's room? Will anyone even give him a seat on a committee? I can't wait to hear how he defends his jumping ship when he no longer counts. Talk about being ignored or taken for granted. I suppose he won't be able to count on many White House invitations to discuss his misgivings.

 I am holding my breath till Nov5, and sitting on the edge of my seat.

Let us not be too over confident. Sean Hannity has been doing this for years, and unfortunately he has always been wrong. Sean said that it would be a "slam dunk" that Bill Clinton would be escorted out of the White House before the end of his second term due to his impeachment. Well, that never happened. In fact, Clinton had a party on the South Lawn of the White House the day after he was impeached. Let's keep intelligent heads together, and be careful in our expectations. We need to run the race as if we are still trying to WIN. Never let the guard down. Complacency leads to, and thus, results in failure.

The latest Cook Report lists 44 competitive races, but only 12 as tossups. Of the remaining 32 seats, 12 lean toward the Democrats and 20 lean toward the Republicans.

The Senate

The eight most competitive Senate races are half in Democratic hands (New Jersey, Minnesota, South Dakota and Missouri) and half in Republican (Arkansas, Colorado, New Hampshire and Texas).

Most likey : GOP will hold onto TX , NH and probably in Co , but lose in AR.

And RAts will most likely lose in NJ, MN, and probably in SD , but win in MO..............

GOP will likely hold the senate seat in Tennessee..lamar is 19pts ahead of bob clement (d)...but races for the House in the 4th & 5th districts are IFFY. Neither of the GOP canidates are well known, neither have BUCKS in comparison to their demwit counterparts.

Cooper (d) has advantages in 5th District race 5th district

I don't know. The "whisper" columns seem to say that Jean is faltering in MO. I'd say the GOP has a better shot at winning there (now) than in MN or SD.

I do agree the 8 most competitive races are split between the GOP and Dems - although IA may quickly become #9 given last week's shenanigans. But SD, MN, MO and NJ are all quite vulnerable. TX, NH and CO are somewhat vulnerable, but only AR is in the same class as the four Dem seats.

Advantage: GOP (for now, anyway)

Folks: we are in a war; we are at war. It is absolutely incumbent upon us to remove the opposition (read: democrats who will not support the President and terrorists). The one group we remove through the ballot box. The other through the barrel of a gun. But: BOTH MUST BE REMOVED!

There should be no "toss ups" regarding the elections. We have the power and the registered voters to do the job. What we must do - and this is MANDATORY - is get to the polls and vote this November. No excuses for not voting accepted. None whatsoever. If you would die on election day - vote early. Then you can pass on with a clean conscience!
